Kundapur: Sr Mariotte Appointed Provincial of Southern Sisters of St Ann’s Province

Kundapur, Apr 24: Sr Mariotte of Pius Nagar was appointed Provincial of Southern Province of Sisters of St Ann’s province of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Sr Mariotte was born on September 17 1960, as the daughter of late Alfonse D’Mello and Mary D’Mello. She is the sixth girl in the family and three others are also ordained servants of Jesus Christ. From her childhood days, Sr Mariotte was attracted to a religious life of meditation, with regular participation in congregations and discourses on Jesus Christ.
She completed her primary education from Hanglur Government School and did her high school from St Joseph High School here. With divine inspiration from the late Fr Jacob Crasta, Sr Mariotte joined St Ann’s Convent in Andhra Pradesh.
As an ordained Sister there, she did her intermediate along with the rigours of the religious life of a Sister. Sr Mariotte completed her religious profession in January 1983 and pursued higher studies.
She obtained the first rank in her Diploma in Psychology course from the University of Andhra Pradesh in 1984 and secured a third rank in BA also. These achievements won her a national merit scholarship which enabled her to obtain an MA in Psychology and after a distinction in BEd, Sr Mariotte opted for the profession of a teacher.
In a short span of 25 years, she has reached the citadel of education as a lecturer in psychology in St Theresa’s Autonomous College, Ellore.
She has also been a counselor to students, staff, and the religious Sisters and Brothers. After obtaining her MEd, she became the chairperson of the department of psychology of the same college.
Andhra Pradesh University also appointed her a member of Board of Studies. Her services as vice-principal of the college, superior of the convent, and as provincial counselor were greatly appreciated.
She also secured her MPhil. She has actively participated in NSS programmes as an efficient officer.
The government of Andhra Pradesh was appreciative of her social service to the tsunami-hit people of coastal Andhra Pradesh.
In the orientation programme held under the auspices of the government of Andhra Pradesh, Sr Mariotte was adjudged the best person and also the best resource person. She is now aiming for a PhD.
