Udupi, May 30: Deputy commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, additional deputy commissioner K Vidya Kumari, district level officials and staff who travel in their own vehicles, arrived at the DC’s office at Rajathadri on Thursday, May 30, using public transport.

The DC, additional DC, officials at Ajjarkad and various department staff at the quarters left behind their vehicles as home and boarded along with drivers and security, a public transport vehicle on Thursday morning at 9.30 am.

The vehicle that started at DC’s residence proceeded via Bannanje taluk office road, City bus stand, MGM College along with staff waiting to go for duty to the DC’s office and reached the DC’s office at 9.50 am.

The DC said that officials and staff should use public transport at least once a week in order to decrease the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and air pollution. She has decided to use public transport for travel on every Thursday.

The DC and staff returned home in public transport after closing the office at 5.30 pm. Joint director of the department of Agriculture Kempe Gowda, District Backward Class department officer H R Lamani and others travelled in public transport.
