Mangaluru, May 31: Issues pertaining to traffic and parking dominated the police phone-in programme that was held at police commissioner’s office here on Friday, May 31.

A caller from Kulai complained about private buses not stopping at bus bay and also about vehicles being parked on either sides of the road creating nuisance to the pedestrians.

A caller from Suratkal complained about some youths consuming ganja close to Suratkal railway station. Police commissioner Sandeep Patil said to the caller, "This is good information that you have shared. We will act on it immediately."

A caller from Attavar complained about the vehicles being parked on the footpaths and also about garages repairing vehicles on the roadside. Police commissioner Sandeep Patil said, "This is one of the major issues. Not just in Attavar or Falnir, but in other parts of the city also garages are seen repairing vehicles on the roadside. We will order our police officials to take action against such garages."

A caller from Mudipu complained about trucks carrying sand and stone without covering the same with tarpaulin, which creates problems to two-wheeler riders, especially with sand and stone falling on the road.

A resident of Suratkal complained about auto drivers not using meter and charging the passengers as they wish. Police commissioner instructed traffic police to check into this matter.

A caller from Urwa store complained about buses being parked for long opposite Infosys building creating nuisance to the public and to other buses which are supposed to stop at the bus bay. Police commissioner instructed traffic police to visit to the spot and review the situation and take action accordingly.

A senior citizen from Anegundi complained about two-wheelers using high beam light which creates inconvenience to the vehicles coming from the opposite direction. "Some salesmen regularly visit our house and act suspiciously, which scares us," the caller said. Police commissioner Sandeep Patil replied that the department will deploy a police beat near the caller's house and also asked a police official to visit the caller's residence.

A caller from Padil complained about some buses using shrill horns.

A resident of Alake complained about a footpath that was covered with load of sand and construction materials. Police commissioner Sandeep Patil asked the police official to visit to the spot and book nuisance case.

A caller from Bajpe complained about 47c Golden Travels bus cutting off its trip in the noon.

A caller from Hampankatta complained about a hospital not allowing visitors to park their vehicles inside its premises because of which people are forced to park on the roadside, thus creating traffic problems. Police commissioner Sandeep Patil said, "Earlier also this issue had cropped up during the police phone-in. We will look into this matter seriously and send our officers to discuss the parking issues with the hospital authorities."

As many as 27 calls were received during the programme.

DCP (crime and traffic) Laxmi Ganesh was also present.

The phone-in programme is held every Friday from 10 am to 11 am, during which callers may call on 0824-2220530 or 0824-2220201 to directly express their grievances to the police commissioner.
