Grenade-like object found at Bengaluru railway station triggers panic

Bengaluru, May 31: An object looking like a hand grenade was spotted on the side of the tracks between platforms No 1 and 2 at Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna (KSR) Railway Station in Bengaluru on Friday May 31.

Soon after the object was spotted, Railway Protection Force (RPF) swung into action and cordoned the area. The grenade with the detonator pin was handed over to bomb disposal Squad.

The news triggered panic across the city. Senior railway officers including divisional railway manager, Bengaluru reached the spot for inspection. Divisional security commissioner led the team of RPF to thoroughly search the entire premises including trains.

The train movements except for platform no 1 and 2 were normal. After thorough checking, normal operations restored on both the platforms. The teams that inspected the station included ATS, dog squads and anti-sabotage team.

Railway workforce has been put on alert. Intensive checks at entrance, platforms, train coaches and at parcel office are being conducted.

An official from RPF said that one can confirm if the object was a bomb and its intensity only after detonating it.

Meanwhile, a beeping sound on Sangamitra Express also triggered panic. But it was later ascertained that the sound was due to CCTV malfunction.
