Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jun 1: A software engineer locked himself in his car, closed all the wind shields and torched himself. The suicide incident happened in an area falling under the jurisdiction of Bagalur police station here.

The deceased, identified as Kaushik Shetty (34), a native of Mangaluru, was reportedly going through depression.

He was working for Northern Network company having its office at Manyata Techpark here. He had married four years back, and leaves behind a two-year-old kid.

Shetty had left home at 12 noon on Thursday for office. Thereafter he neither reached his office nor returned to his home. The family members grew apprehensive, and filed a missing case in Frazertown police station here.

Some people had noticed that a Swift car was stationed at a desolate spot near Hosahalli within Bagalur police staiton limits since Thursday afternoon. On Friday afternoon, they conveyed information to the police. The police from Bagalur station who rushed to the spot, found that a lifeless body was inside the car. They broke open the glass, brought the body outside, and sent the same to hospital.

The Frazertown police had conveyed about missing complaint to all police stations. They also had provided the registration number of the car. Bagalur police found that the car number matched with the complaint filed.

Kaushik had taken two litres of petrol in plastic bottle with him, which he poured on himself before lighting a matchstick inside the car. The seat of the car started to burn and the fire was small in size. As all the doors and windows were closed, he died of suffocation as there was no movement of fresh air. As the fire soon got extinguished on its own, the body was not burnt, the police said.

Incidentally, Kaushik, after getting seated in the car, had searched methods to commit suicide in his mobile phone. This phone was found by his side inside the car.

It's sad to know what happened. May his soul rest in peace.
If depression was indeed the cause for this extreme measures then I feel very sorry for him. It can kill you inch by inch till the point you no longer have hope left. Even the most loving family can be oblivious to their loved ones misery and suffering. Who is to blame them. You only truly understand depression when you walked that difficult path where every step is looking to eat you alive yet fighting it with the hope of coming out alive. It can kill you but if you come out alive it will make you stronger and a better person.

Seeing some comments here where people are calling him a coward or a fool makes me feel how apprehensive we are towards aknowledging the fact that depression is a serious condition. Suicide is definitely not the solution but depression can make you think otherwise that's how powerful it is. I don't blame you for being so naive with your comments but please show some emphathy for it as well. My heartfelt condolences to his family and the little one he left behind. May they find peace...

Even Japan and South Korea which have a highly educated population have a high suicide rate...probably due to job stress and overwork or family / domestic / personal issues. One can be well settled in life with good job and supportive family and still be depressed. Depression is a silent killer among people. It is high time people bring it into the open and expose it and get professional help through medication and therapy.

Don't dismiss depression as mere ailment. And make a joke out of it.
It's more deadlier then cancer and heart disease.
A promising life gone and leaving behind a orphaned child.
He was not in proper frame of mind and not able decipher his actions.
And sadly we as society can only pass jokes on mental impairment patients

So sad .Now his young family has to suffer.many times we observe that techies are due to their extreem tension at work, concentration tend to depression.and commit suecide. There must be some way out for this.Techies should take more time to relax themselves ,to take off tension ,not always work and work and die .Their employers also should give in this direction some attention to them.send them to doctor from time to time.to see if they are tending to suecide.Atleast they can help their family later to avoid tragody.Heartfelt sympathy to the family.may his soul rest in peace.

Olden days people were less educated, had very little income with almost no modern amenities but still lived a happy life with whatever they had and had the courage to face life. Now a days, every other day we read about suicide by highly educated people with good job having everything in life at a very young age but lack of courage to face life! Whether it is job stress or family stress ?! Something is definitely missing these days!

Disaster! He should not have done at least forthe sake of small kid.Death is final and certain to every one, but before that many things to be done. It is very saddening to see young people highly educated could be a role model to others going to the extreme step, Whatever the problem there will be a solution. Self killing one degrades the person and the people around him.
