Sullia, Jun 2: Priest of Kukke Subramanya temple near here was attacked by an assailant on the night of Saturday, June 1.

It is suspected that this attack has taken place as there is a long standing feud between the temple and the Math over some issues.

Kumar Bannintaya (61), priest of the temple is the one who was attacked. After completing the religious rituals, the priest was standing outside the temple on the night of Saturday, when he was attacked by some miscreants. He has been admitted to the hospital.

There were some differences between the Kukke Subramanya temple and math with regards to conducting Sarpa Samskara ritual. There was animosity between the personnel of math and temple over this matter from quite some time. It is suspected that the priest of the temple is attacked in this connection itself.

A person by the name Palaniswamy had paid Rs 7,000 to the Math and got a receipt to conduct Sarpa Samskara ritual. When he gave the receipt in the temple, the temple authorities sent him back saying that there is no relation between the Math and them. When Palaniswamy questioned the same with the Math administration and asked for refund, they refused to pay his money back.

Palaniswamy had filed a complaint in this regard with the Kukke Subramanya police station. After this particular incident animosity is brewing between the Math and temple.
