Mangalore: Spot Fishing Event at Pilikula Draws Large Crowds Report and pics by Sujay BendoreDaijiworld Media Network - MangaloreMangalore, May 3: Large crowds kept pouring into Pilikula Nisargadhama (nature park) situated at the outskirts of the city on Sunday to watch fresh-water fish being caught and auctioned on the spot. The fish bred in the well-developed lake is being carefully nurtured but caught only once a year. The event, aimed at promoting tourism at the venue, was personally supervised by the nature park's executive director J R Lobo, heritage village director Dr Vaman Nandavar and wildlife director Jayaprakash Bhandary.
The inquisitive visitors watched in large numbers as a veteran team of 'rampani' fishermen dived into the pond with their nets. Some fish, about three feet in length, seen jumping over the net in a bid to escape, provided a bit of entertainment for the enthusiastic public. Most of the fish was of the local favourite 'katla'. Large ones weighing upto 7-8 kg were auctioned . The highest bid went up to Rs 850. Local TV channels gave maximum coverage to the event. By noon, the event drew more crowds. Round two of the auction generated a lot of interest, and many were getting ready to buy fish auctioned .

Joachim Fernandes, US your view "If God did not want man to eat animals He would not have made them of meat." This is an atrocious & sick statement. If you go by your view, GOD has created lakhs of species of animals with meat, but why you consume only meats of few species of animals? why not dogs, cats, elephant, tiger meat etc? Its because they are not tasty.
Hence you can assume that GOD created animals like human being to live its life full but not to supplement food. Cruel human being quoting religious texts and food preferecne justify killing and torture of anilmals for food and pleasure. So I condemn your view with utter disgust. Becoem vegetarian and go green.
When God created animals and gave them life...why should he make them suffer and cry aloud? Instead he would have made meat ready on our plates. Therefore...how can I ever eat something that has a face similar to mine?
If God did not want man to eat animals He would not have made them of meat.
"Animals are my Friends and I don’t eat my friends. My situation is a solemn one. Life is offered to me on condition of eating meat and others. But death is better than cannibalism. My will contains directions for my funeral, which will be followed not by mourning coaches, but by oxen, sheep, flocks, trees/plants on the way, and a small traveling aquarium of live fish, all wearing white scarfs in honor of the man who perished rather than eat his fellow creatures. -George Bernard Shaw
If vegeterians can end the life of living plants for food, what is wrong if non vegeterians ends the life of cattles for food... just to call oneself Ahinsawadi, one has to be vegeterian ? Who knows it is the demand & supply position which made the presense of 2 types of consumers... We can not question God''s wisdom...our wisdom is limited..hence let us not impose one''s food habit on each other... Mr.Josep from tibet even goes to the extent of saying that parasites are not GOD''s creation ..& has to be wiped out only to prove that he is is 100% AHINSAVADI... May I ask Joseph to create one single mosquito during his life time.....
God alone is the Creator ..we are all creatures...this fact we can not deny... Whenever we tried to equate creature to the "creator" status.. we landed in trouble... Mr.Bhat agrees that we can not be 100% Ahinsavadi as we can not live without killing the dangerous insects, poisnous snakes, rats etc....When we inhale, lots of bacterias goes to our lungs..
If vegeterians can end the life of living plants for food, what is wrong if non vegeterians ends the life of animals for food only... just to call onself ahinsawadi all should go for vegetable foods..You yourselves agree that one cannot be 100% Ahinsawadi as you justify the killing of harmful insects, poisonous snakes etc. Who knows it is the supply & demand theory of nature''s made the presence of 2 type of consumers..
We can not question God''s wisdom..our wisdom is limited..many of the scientific theories which were valid couple of years before have been proved wrong....let us not impose our food habits on each other.. Mr.Joseph even goes to the extent of saying that parasites, mosquitoes can not be God''s creation..just to prove his point of 100% ahinsawadi.. Can Mr.Joseph create one "Mosquito".during his lifetime..can he bring back the food from Mosquitos in its original form...
"Real Happiness will come to those who truly appreciate what they ''already'' have..." -The Naturalism of Life
I totally agree people, but one thing. I would not harm or kill any creature ''regardless'', because they are not the ones who originally bring problems/diseases/harms to the world. Only parasites such as: mosquitoes, flees, ticks, poisonous blackbugs, red-ants, tapeworms, centipedes have to be wiped away because they were not created by God I would believe. The Creator made light and nothing is missing in light...it is in perfection when we go in the appropriate way of life.
Mr. Joseph Tibet, Great i agree with you again and believe in non violence, a weapon effectively used by Gandhiji to win freedom for us. Genius (?) Read my comments properly. What I have said is abhorrence of wanton killing of animals and innocent creatures for pleasure and food. I do agree with you that one cannot be 100% ahimsawadi, but can be ahimsawadi if he does not eat meat and flesh of dead animals for living. we are not in stone age era where stone age people killed and ate raw meat for survival. We have developed a lot scientifically but our food habit remains the same. Along with harmful creatures like what you said about harmful pests, piosonus snakes, and rats we kill harmless creatures for living.
"What thou avoidest suffering thyself...seek not to impose on others......"
Pesticides, herbicides, insecticides are not supposed to be used because they destroy the microbial life in the soil, they poison the plant that causes mankind to suffer. Instead people use substitutes (I too use)... such as- natural herbs, or thulasi/sacred basil, mint, fennel, neem, etc...all used as natural repellant. Also...diseases are not caused by any animal as you mentioned in your comments. Diseases are caused by external pathogenic agents...ie., places that are not maintained or not cleaned. Say for example if people do not shower themselves or they do not clean their environment and when people come inside and destroy the plants or crops of others....what would you call that? So remember that nonviolence is a lot more stronger than the atom-bomb (violence...mankind''s mentality) that is enough to bring mankind to an end. And Nonviolence is enough to bring- goodness, creation and positivity. Therefore I advise you that Nonviolence & Compassion is the only genius in the world that God made...to connect all life in the universe and to energetically balance everything as it is.
Mr. M. Bhat Mr. Joseph, Mr. Swami.. from today onwards.. don''t debug your house, don''t use pesticide on crops at field, don''t poison rats, don''t take medicine to cure viral fever. Because if you are firm and believing in your ideology of Ahimsa, by debugging you are killing bugs, by pesticiding you are killing insects, by poisoning you are killing innocent rats, by taking medicine you are killing virus which causes viral fever. Your version of Ahimsa must be impartial and all living creature must be covered by it. You can not keep out some creatures frrom your list. In this world every creature is dependent to one or other creature ether for food or any other means. You can not live 100% ahimsavadi.
I fully agree with Swamiji Atmananda and Joseph Tibet. Why kill innocent creatures for sake of fun and food when the nature has bestowed us with plenty of vegetarian food, which is not only wholesome and healthy but minimises discease borne out of consumption of non veg foods.
Kindly lets be compassionate towards all living creatures and become vegetarians. Ashraf Habibi, GANGULI/DAMMAM Your view is silly and illogical.
Well said Joseph Tibet.Being vegetarian is good for all and to farmers too.
Listen people: When you cut/trim the branch of a plant it will grow back again or if we take a fruit of a plant grown directly from earth or indirectly from the plant...it will grow back again. But when you cut the head of an animal/human or kill them...it will not grow back again, they will suffocate, suffer, cry and die. And the same bad-karma wil reflect back to those who destroy the creation of God. Quote: "For as long as people massacre animals they will kill each other. Indeed he who sows the seed of murder and pain...cannot reap the fruits of joy & happiness." -Philosopher Pythagoras BE COMPASSIONATE TO HEAVENIZE THE WORLD...Save the planet, Be Veg, Go GREEN

Make this a family event than certain fisherman catching it and selling it for a price of their own. If need be collect Rs.100 for each entrant. Let it be what they catch is what they get.
Good thought Atmananda. Learn not to harm/kill/rape Dalits and Christians in Orissa too. Be kind to them . They are God''s creatures too.
Although it looks horrible in these photographs, we(Most fish eaters) dont mind seeing them in fish market and bring them home to cook. Anyway " kondha papa thindu parihara" , we are killing them for our food !!!!!???
Very nice, excellent spot fishing event at pilikula thanks daiji
good work..Thanks Daiji.
All Vegetarian & Non-Vegetarian food are living plants & animals. We are ending their life for our food. Sacrificing as prey for consumption is different from killing for fun. As per Muslim customs, the sacrificing animal should be handled gently.
They should be fed with best of available fodder & water before sacrificing. The knife should say, “I am sacrificing this animal for our food” before cutting the food pipe of the animal. The animal should be left free once the food pipe of the sacrificing animal is completely cut to die a peaceful death.
Mr.Swamiathmananda,Udupi....How about Landscape garedening??.. Let us not forget that plants do have lives...they too feel the pain..they too cry..
