The police officials said they arrested Rahman after receiving a large number of complaints from heritage enthusiasts and activists regarding the obscene selfies, posted on Facebook, of him vulgarly kissing, hugging and touching some female idols and sculptures at one of India’s greatest and oldest temples.

According to Trichy police, Rahman hails from Othakkadai area of Madurai and works as a food delivery boy in Trichy. “He went to the nearby ancient town of Thanjavur on Wednesday as part of Eid celebration and visited King Raja Raja Chola built Brahideeswara Temple -better known as ‘the big temple’, there he took the controversial pictures with the women sculptures,” said the police.
