Mangalorean Boy Kartik Bhat Excels in IAS Exam - Secures Rank

Mangalore, May 6: M Kartik Bhat, 23, son of city mayor M Shankar Bhat and Sujata S Bhat, has come out with flying colours in the Indian Administration Service (IAS) examination - 2008. He has bagged the 140th rank in the examination.
Kartik says, the encouragement extended by his parents and his own interest in the administrative services were instrumental in his success. He exuded confidence that he would be able to discharge the responsibilities that come with the post, with total commitment. "I am aware, this is a sector where I will have to face various challenges regularly and that the field also offers me opportunities to get involved with developmental activities. I am eager to serve the people through efficient handling of the responsibilities," he said.
Mayor Shankar Bhat says, Kartik has been a brilliant boy since his childhood and that administration, political science and service were his pet subjects. "Not only does he read a lot, he also excelled in sports at the state level. I wish, his achievement will spur other youngsters in the region," he added.
Kartik studied in Chinmaya school in the city till SSLC and completed PUC through St Aloysius College here. He completed his civil engineering degree through Nitte Engineering College with distinction. Kartik happens to be the only student from the entire district to have cleared the examination in the first attempt.
