Mangalore, May 9: As mother nature made the drops of rain to come down, they are welcomed by many. There are also others who are bothered by it, like the ones who dry the Happalams in their court yard and for those who have auspicious occasions to celebrate, rains can spell disaster, giving them endless worries about the negative impact the rain can have on the function.
Prolonged rains can cause the people to get huddled at homes, robbing the merchants of their business. Cooler temperatures spell bad omen for the sellers of air conditioners, fans, coolers, ice cream parlours etc., who feel the heat as soon as the rain makes an appearance. On the contrary, sellers of umbrella open their stocks and set up their wares, expecting some good business. People expect the taps to give out water for more number of hours, while water tanker operators get a worried look on their faces.
Nature always welcomes the droplets of rain with open arms. Soaked leaves give a contented look, leaving the water to ease to the earth that is thirsty because of the prolonged heat. People search for the umbrellas which had been assigned to a corner of the house immediately after last year's rainy season. Children always enjoy the rain but their mothers are bothered about the chances of their wards catching cold. Civic authorities get flooded with calls, as drains get flooded. Well-dressed people get worried about spoiling their dresses, but the labourers have to continue to work to earn a living, whether it is rain or shine. This is also the season in which the mosquito breeds and the authorities as usual, go through the mundane formalities of raising malaria alerts and going through the relevant exercises based on last year's files.
Our ace photographer Dayananda Kukkaje has caught some such moments in his camera, artistic photographs projecting sublime nature.
