First Ever Global Konkani Music Awards Presented With Great Fanfare

Mangalore, May 10: The first Konkani global music awards were presented at Kalangann in Shakti Nagar during a glittering ceremony filled with music and dance in the presence of eminent singer Usha Uthup on Sunday May 10.
Akshada Talaulikar was adjudged the best female singer while Lawry Travasso was the best male singer.
Dilip Kashinath Vaze was declared the best music composer while Wilson Sequeira was adjudged best lyricist and 'Swadik Sobd' received the award for the best album. Producer of the album Fr Alwyn Sequeira and arranger Praveen Duth Stephen received the awards.
Legend Singer ‘Konkan Kogul’ Wilfy Rebimbus was recognized for his lifetime achievement in the field of music. The award consisting of a cash prize of Rs 1 lac and a gold medal, was presented to Rebimbus at his home as he was unable to attend the event.
As Titus Norohna talked of the Wilfy’s achievements, the audience gave him a standing ovation.
Meanwhile, Uthup appreciated the arrangements made for the event and said, “The Konkani music awards should be given every year.”
She also sang a Konkani song and the Indian pop number ‘I live with music’. Towards the end of her performance, she called all the finalists and guests onstage and sang along with them enthralling the audience.
Bishop Henry D’Souza presented mementos to the three nominees in each category.
A programme of music and dance followed the awards ceremony.
The team of musicians consisted of guitar maestro Alwyn Fernandes, flutist Butto, violinist Manoj from the film world in Bangalore, and Mandd Sobhann musicians such as keyboard player Richie, bass guitarist Ashith and Roshan.
Donors Marian Lazarus D’Souza, Roy Castelino, Capt R S B D'Mas and Ronald Mendonca, were involved in the presentation of awards. Later, they were all honoured with mementos.
The sponsors of the event were also honoured on the occasion.
Eric Ozario, Gurkar, Mandd Sobhann, Louie J Pinto, president, Mandd Sobhann, and office-bearers and members of the organization, were also present.
Poornananda Chari and 'Miss Daijiworld' Melita Pinto were the comperes of the programme.
