Mangalore, May 11:
Three persons were injured seriously, after a pandal erected at the Town Hall premises collapsed on Monday May 11 morning.

The pandal had been set up for a wedding reception party. It collapsed as the polls erected for withstanding the weight and pulling force of the pandal got snapped. The three injured persons were engaged in erecting the pandal.

The workers, who have sustained grievous injuries, have been identified as John, a resident of Naguri here, Mohandas and Mohammed Altaf.

The injured three were hospitalized immediately after the workers engaged on town hall cleaning duties found the workers trapped inside the tripped pandal. The pandal which had been erected by using iron sheets, iron pipes, was meant to serve as dining hall of the ceremony.

The workers of the Town Hall, who happen to be the eyewitnesses for the incident, said that they heard a loud noise when they were engaged in work on the other side of Town Hall building.

The reception party has been organized by a newly-wed couple from Uchila near Ullal. But none from the organizers’ side has arrived at the Town Hall so far, as the party is set to start after 11’ O clock.

Pandeshwar police personnel have visited the spot and conducted enquiry.

Prevention is better than cure. Unfortunately we only take things for granted. By the photographs it can be gauged that these poor labourers are not well trained to erect the pandal nor the equipments are safety worthy. This should be an eye opening for everybody.

Since Galvanized Iron sheets are used, it will lead to excess weight & may be the supports were not strong enough to bear that weight. Feel sad for the workers who are injured.
