M'lore: Ban on Victory Marches, Crackers Till May 18 after Announcement of Poll Results

Mangalore, May 11: “Political parties and their supporters cannot burst crackers or celebrate their victory with victory marches after the poll results are announced on Saturday May 16. Such celebrations have been banned till Monday May 18 and after that also they will have to seek the permission of local authorities to hold a procession”, said superintendent of police Dr A Subrahmanyeswara Rao on Monday May 11.
Speaking in a press meet arranged jointly with deputy commissioner (DC) V Ponnuraj on election counting arrangements and the security, he said, “From the evening of Friday May 15 to midnight on Monday May 18, prohibitory orders will be enforced in the district with CRPC Section 144. Along with this, public gatherings will be banned at a distance of upto 200 meters from the counting centres.
Briefing about counting arrangements the DC said that counting will start at 8 am on Saturday in Canara College where the electronic voting machines have been stored.
He added that candidates and their agents will be permitted at the counting centres on producing the passes that have been issued to them. Ponnuraj said that to avoid the mobilizing of candidates from one centre to another, the agents had been issued colour-coded passes.
Headquarters assistant officer Prabhakara Sharma was also present.
