Mangalore, May 11:
“Political parties and their supporters cannot burst crackers or celebrate their victory with victory marches after the poll results are announced on Saturday May 16. Such celebrations have been banned till Monday May 18 and after that also they will have to seek the permission of local authorities to hold a procession”, said superintendent of police Dr A Subrahmanyeswara Rao on Monday May 11.

Speaking in a press meet arranged jointly with deputy commissioner (DC) V Ponnuraj on election counting arrangements and the security, he said, “From the evening of Friday May 15 to midnight on Monday May 18, prohibitory orders will be enforced in the district with CRPC Section 144. Along with this, public gatherings will be banned at a distance of upto 200 meters from the counting centres.

Briefing about counting arrangements the DC said that counting will start at 8 am on Saturday in Canara College where the electronic voting machines have been stored.

He added that candidates and their agents will be permitted at the counting centres on producing the passes that have been issued to them. Ponnuraj said that to avoid the mobilizing of candidates from one centre to another, the agents had been issued colour-coded passes.

Headquarters assistant officer Prabhakara Sharma was also present.

Ever since the new DC and the SP have taken charge things in Mangalore seem to have improved. Both these officials are young and seem to gel well as a team. They are totally different from the earlier duo who were totally out of sorts and would only take orders from the political masters. They made a total mess of everything. I hope these two continue to be around atleast for a few more years and that our dirty politicians do not attempt to poke their noses in their work.

A very good order by SP and DC.I think this should be applicable throughout the country as this will help the ordinary people to lead their life peacefully.Voters have done their job and it is the turn of the winners to do their job. Some of the candidates might have got less than 50% of the total vote cast, but may be winners due to many candidates in fray.In reality they have not won the support of the majority. This would happen in the absence of two party system.Any how the winners should be tracked to their contribution for the welfare work being done in their constituencies.

It is surely an appreciable measure taken by DC & SP of Mangalore Dist. I am sure, certain kind of descipline will previal when these kind of restrictions are put in practice. If people are let free to celebrate victory, city will generally be filled with lot of noise pollution with loud speakers and air pollution with crackers and road blocks and inconvenience due to rallys n processions... Hope Mangalore gets back to some peace, harmony, descipline and  thans  to DC & SP.
