Mangalore, May 14: The Great Reverse Show in which the four wheelers were required to be maneuvered through the difficult curves and bends and Two-wheeler Slow Race, in which the two wheelers had to be driven at the slowest pace possible without the riders' touching down their feet to the ground, were held here recently at Padua High School Grounds, Nanthoor here. The races attracted lot of drivers who held themselves in high esteem, as far as their driving skills are concerned.
The drivers, who thought it to be an easy affair, were bowled over by the hair pin and zig-zag curves on the tracks, which had to be negotiated without ever moving out of the track limits. Most of the drivers gave up half-way through and a few reached the final destination. The competition evoked very good response, going by the number of participants who volunteered to compete. Women had been given a separate track to drive.
The show was conceived by MJF Ln Agnel Rodrigues, Lions district chairperson for motor sports and managing director of Agnel's Ad-Venture. Agnel had organized the reverse show earlier in 1998 and 2006, and 40 drivers vied for victory this time.
Lion’s district 324-D5 governor Mohan Kamath inaugurated the programme, besides himself participating in it. Mrs Goenka who covered the track in 1m 25 seconds and Nischita Alva, who took 1m 47 seconds, stood first and second in women's section respectively. In the men's category, Callie won with a timing of 43 seconds, followed closely by runner up Jugul D'Souza, who recorded a timing of 46 seconds.
The slow-racing track for two-wheelers was however, straight. Out of over 30 participants, Primal Vas became victorious in the women's category with Dean Mascarehnas walking away with the first prize in men's category. Naveen bagged the second prize.
