New Zealand, Jun 24: The Air New Zealand flight was recently stalled for a long time before its take off. The flight was fully booked and was scheduled to depart right on time. Surprisingly, all the passengers who booked their tickets were quite adamant not to let the flight take off. The reason for the delay was not something that had to do with the plane, rather it was the incessant need to watch the World Cup 2019 match between West Indies and New Zealand.

The New Zealand match was being held at Old Trafford in Manchester. On Saturday June 22, West Indies were in a stiff competition with the Kiwis for the victory. The excitement of the match had kept every NZ fan on the edge of their seat. The passengers were not willing to fly until the match had a victor. A unanimous decision was taken where everyone agreed to wait before the captain could start the engines.

With 12 balls and just a wicket left, the passengers wanted to complete watching before losing connectivity in the air. The pilot obliged given the exhilaration the fans had. Finally, the match ended with the Kiwis claiming the victory and once the match ended the plane took off.

One of the passengers who was on board the flight was Kieran McAnulty. He is the Member of Parliament with the Labour party of the country. While on board, Kieran tweeted about the situation stating, 'My @FlyAirNZ flight was fully boarded, the plane loud from all the live streams. 12 balls left, 1 wicket needed. Please don’t start the plane. The @BLACKCAPS win! We all erupt in unison. Only then, amongst the cheers, did the plane start to move. It was a beautiful moment. #CWC19'.
