Mangalore: Police Arrest Three in Connection with Gangster Pandu Pai’s Murder

Dr A S Rao, superintendent of police, on Friday May 15 said that personal enmity was the reason behind the killing of notorious gangster Panduranga Pai alias Pandu Pai.

Briefing media persons on the arrest of three persons in connection with Pai’s murder, Dr Rao said that the enquiry till date indicated that enmity between Pai and Bejai Raja, one of the former’s erstwhile associates, had led to the murder.

Dr Rao added that Bejai Raja alias Shailesh is also a criminal who will soon be arrested.

The three people arrested are all involved in various other criminal cases—Rohit Poojary, resident of Katipalla, is involved in rioting cases and has five cases booked against him while Rajesh Shetty, resident of Katipalla, is involved in a riotingto case and an attempt murder and Yuvaraj, resident of Kudupadi, in Udupi district is wanted in several cases in Udupi and Karkala.
 
“First Pandu Pai was called to Hassan by the accused and later they returned to Mangalore together. On the way to Mangalore, Pai was made to drink liquor in Sakaleshpur after which Rohit tied a nylon rope around his neck. Later the others slit his neck and disposed off the body near Kankanady railway station”, said Dr Rao outlining the method used by the murders.

Dr Rao added that two DCIB teams were formed to arrest the accused and were led by Venkatesh Prasanna and Mangalore rural inspector Lingappa and PSI Prakash.
 
The main accused Bejai Raja and another accomplice Yashodhara are yet to be arrested.
 
Three More Arrests in Naushad Murder Case
 
“As the murder of advocate Naushad is under investigation, the accused are under trace and Pandeswara police arrested three more persons for financing the prime accused in this case”, said Dr Rao.
 
The arrested are Rakesh Patel, a native of Gujarat, settled in Bangalore and Rahul and Ravi Shukvani, both residents of Chandni Chowk in New Delhi.

These three are ‘hundi’ businessmen and gave Rs 5 lac to prime accused Dinesh.
