Mangalore, May 17: The runner-up in the Dakshina Kannada constituency elections,B Janardhana Poojary said that his party will look into the electoral illegalities by the BJP after reviewing it block wise in the constituency.
Addressing a press conference at district Congress office here on Sunday May 17 he said, “We have received allegations about illegalities of distributing money, inking fingers before the polls, and collecting identity cards. But we are going to document it. For the documentation, we are going to review the areas where such illegalities took place. And after that we will disclose the facts”.
“In some booths in the rural and remote areas, during the time of sealing the EVMs on election day, there were no agents from our party present and we have got allegations that illegal voting was also done. We will look in to this matter thoroughly”, said Poojary adding that all the irregularities will be probed.
“The money power will not live long; truth will prevail one day”, said Poojary.
Replying to a question about the reason for the BJP’s victory, Poojary said, “Their Hindutva is the only vote bank. The real Hindutva is not what Nalin Kumar, the BJP, or the Sangh Parivar say. By talking of Hindutva they can get power or votes but it will not sustain in the long run. The sacred Hindutva is something different”, he added.
Poojary said, “The people’s verdict is a clear signal to the UPA. People voted for peace not for violence. The verdict has alerted us to work even more for the next elections.
I am happy that the verdict has come out against the communal forces”, he said.
Poojary began the press conference by extending his congratulations to his chief opponent and winner Nalin Kumar Kateel of the BJP and asked him to concentrate on development and peace.
“He should have control over his words”, suggested Poojary and said that Kateel had spoken badly of a woman and the Congress had refrained from making an issue of it though they had video documentation to support it.
“Control over words is most important for everyone, including me”, he added.
Congress leaders Ramanath Rai, Ivan D’Souza, Harikrishna Bantwal, and K S M Masood were also present.
