Mumbai: Woman fights chain snatcher in building lift, nabs him with help of residents

Mumbai, Jun 28: A woman from Dahisar was in for shock when a man followed her all the way to her apartment lift and tried to snatch her chain. Residents were alerted hearing the woman crying for help and they nabbed the thief and gave him a sound beating before handing him over to the police. CCTV cameras installed inside the apartment and the lift captured the entire incident.

As per a TOI report, the woman, a resident of Sharda Darshan buiding in Dahisar East, told the police that she was heading back to her residence after buying vegetables on June 19. She did not pay attention to the fact that someone was following her all the way till her society and she entered the elevator at around 8.15 pm. The mugger stepped in right behind her and pushed her hard causing her to fall. He tried snatching her chain but the woman resisted bravely and yelled for help.

Hearing her cries, residents came to her aid and caught hold of the robber and gave him a sound thrashing before handing him over to the police. A senior police officer said, “The accused has been identified as Devnath Kukku. He lives at Bablipada in Dahisar East. We are verifying if he has a crime record.”
