Karkala, May 19: She completed her SSLC 15 years ago and dreamt of studying upto II PUC. This longtime dream of hers was realized this year when she bagged 515 marks out of 600 in the public examinations.
It is indeed a commendable achievement by thirty-year-old Clara Ayona Coutinho, who resides with her mother at Thodar, near Iruvail Road, near here. Clara appeared for the II PUC examinations as a private candidate.
Smart Tutorials played a vital role in her success in bagging a distinction. She has inspired many to pursue private studies by scoring 94 in accountancy and 91 in history.
“I went to a tutorial at Moodbidri where I was discouraged by a counselor with his negative comments. Later, I have went to another tutorial suggested by my cousin, and the counselor there inspired me by saying that strong determination and a clear goal is what is required to achieve the set objective. This gave me positive reinforcement”, explained Clara Ayona Coutinho, on her major achievement.
Clara completed her initial schooling at St Sebastian Primary School, Hosabettu, and SSLC from Holy Rosary High School, Moodbidri.
Elaborating on why she abandoned studies after SSLC, Clara said, “I was fed up with the teachers at my high school who punished me for a silly mistake by making me sweep dry leaves from a nearby plantation. I made up my mind that I would not study further in this situation as I was inclined to study in a free atmosphere without any bondage and bias”.
“I was worried whether I could complete II PUC after a gap of 15 years”, added Clara. Meanwhile, she was grateful for her teachers at the tutorials and her brother for helping her in studies. Although she expected 98 marks in accountancy, she was happy with the results.
Clara has also done PGDCA simultaneously and mastered Tally package in accounts. She was unfortunate enough to lose her father in her childhood and aspires to pursue the Computerized Accounting and Finance Course (CAFC) that will secure a bright future for her.
Steven Mendis, philanthropist and managing director of Western Institute of Technology, Mangalore, has assured her assistance in pursuing studies at his institute.
“Although my daughter wants to pursue CAFC, it’s difficult to pay the fees. She wants to study making the best use of her opportunities in life and that has brought happiness to all,” said Clara’s aged mother Alice Coutinho. She sought the support of philanthropists in supporting her daughter’s study.
Smart Tutorials proprietor Nemiraj K who has been tutoring students for the past two decades said that Clara had made a record of sorts in Moodbidri, by securing 515 marks by privately appearing in II PUC examinations.
