Nashik, Jul 2: Over one lac Muslims gathered in ‘Shahidon Ki Yaadgaar’ (martyrs memorial) monument creating history as the community joined in response to demand a law against mob lynching. This was the first time such a rally was carried out by the Muslim community against mob lynching. The attack suffered by the 24-year-old Tabrez Ansari has pushed everyone to the edge.
The people rallying made it clear that they were looking for justice and not seeking any revenge. The appeals were made to police, State and Central governments to pay attention to the Constitution. A fiery message was circulated among the Muslims that the,'victims of lynchings should not show helplessness in chanting Jai Shri Ram, instead, they should die by taking the Sahadat'.

One of the officials of All-India Muslim Personal Law Board claimed that there were several cases of lynching in which there were no FIRs and no action taken against the accused. The speeches delivered at the rally were thought provoking: “Today’s historical rally is enough to tell the entire country that Muslims will not tolerate oppression for long. We say it clearly: mob lynching is a mobilised murder and is being spread according to a well-devised plan. This is state and non-state terrorism, and it is obligatory on all citizens to stop terrorism. In the pure land of Sita, we can (now) hear footsteps of Ravan, and it is our collective responsibility to stop this.”
The community also submitted letters to different government bodies while reminding them of their constitutional duties. Further, there was also a strong demand for over Rs 50 lac as compensation for the families who lost one of their own to lynching.
