Bangalore, May 22: State BJP spokesman and former Mangalore MP, 57-year old Dhananjay Kumar has been appointed as the new special representative of the state government at New Delhi. Dhananjay, who remained in the sidelines for some time before emerging as the BJP's state's spokesperson in which capacity he did a commendable job, has been aptly rewarded with this posting. Official notification in this connection is expected to be issued within a day or two.
Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa chose Dhananjay in place of retired police officer Subhash Bharani, who presently holds the post.
Dhananjay is backed by the experience of being a four-time MP from Mangalore and has worked as the minister in the department of tourism and aviation in the BJP-led government in 1996. In the year 1999, he was minister of state in the finance ministry. For some time, he was also in charge of textile ministry.
As special representative of the government, Kumar will have to function as a coordinator between the state and central governments. This is a post of cabinet rank.
Dhananjay Kumar, who had worked as the president of the BJP state Yuva Morcha in 1982, was the Dakshina Kannada unit president of the BJP between 1986 and 1990. In the last assembly and Lok Sabha elections, he had deftly handled the media section of the party.
