Kerala priests up in arms against Cardinal Alencherry

Kochi, Jul 2 (IANS): Some 261 priests of the Syro Malabar Catholic Church in Ernakulam and Angamaly archdioceses on Tuesday started a protest seeking withdrawl of the suspension of two bishops and threatened to intensify their stir if the demand was not heeded.

On Friday, 150 priests took part in a similar protest after the two bishops were suspended by the Vatican, which also decided to return the administrative powers of Cardinal George Alencherry, the supreme head of the Church.

Cardinal Alencherry's powers were taken away last year after a criminal case was registered against him in a three-acre land deal in Kochi in 2016.

"We demand the church make public the two reports of an internal probe conducted in the controversial land sale. The suspension of the two bishops is also not acceptable. If things do not go forward in a fair manner, we will step up our protests," said the priests.

This is spoiling the name of Christianity. It only happens in India and we are laughed at. No wonder, churches is Europe and USA are charging entrance fee to maintain costs. Some churches are closing down and being converted to shopping complex with food courts. Some have been sold to , rich Indians who have converted them to temples and mutts. Our great CM is here to inaugrate one. When Bishops behave like this , how can you expect parishers to visit churches. Christians find it convenient any day to worship from home.

This century everything is not well, the churches buy land or the land/money is given to them free later the clergy thinks it belongs to them and makes money same like the previous bishop in Mangalore.

The Church needs purging & flushing out of evil which is silently governing the hierarchy. One must remember that Martin Luther started the Reformation for the main 3 Reasons:
    1. To Purge the Evil in the Society.
    2. To set right the Liturgy
    3. To correct the sloth & defects of the Clergy.
Christians should voice their concerns & shouldn't remain silent spectators. Lots of Politics is going in Convents & Dioceses. Proper norms in Liturgy is not followed & Sunday liturgy has just become a Traditional Practice.
