Mangalore: Murderers of Helmet Merchant Arrested

Mangalore, May 23: The policemen have succeeded in arresting Ranjeet Kumar Gupta (19) who was working as assistant for the murdered helmet merchant and Anuj Kumar Gupta alias Panchi (30), his accomplice, on charges of murdering helmet merchant Ram Bharose Gupta(80) for robbing him.
The body of Ram Bharose Gupta, who used to carry on helmet trade opposite Saidani Beebi Darga near the Nehru Maidan in the city, was found in a decomposed state on the morning of April 16, at the spot where he used to conduct helmet sale. His body had been folded and packed into the carton box on which helmets had been neatly arranged. The special squads formed by the Pandeshwar police station collected information that two youngsters had been packing the carton box on the previous night of the murder.
The policemen acted swiftly, and based on reliable information, went to Kozhikode, Kerala and collected information from a lodge where the alleged killers used to stay, that two men, resembling the two the policemen were looking for, used to stay where and collected helmets that came through the train. The policemen then went to Delhi, gathered information about the residential address of the deceased person and contacted his family members. His relatives who came to the city, identified the clothes found on the body of the deceased Gupta. The investigating police personnel also collected information that a person named Ranjeet Kumar Gupta from UP was working for Ram Bharose.
The policemen who tracked the movements of Gupta, caught him when he came to release the railway parcel of helmets from Mangalore railway station. Upon interrogation, Ranjeet confessed to have murdered his employer with the help of Anuj, who also sold helmets in Goa, by crushing his head with a boulder, as Ram Bharose did not pay him properly for his work. The policemen later rushed to Goa and arrested Anuj Kumar Gupta from a lodge there.
The accused were produced in the JMFC second court here on Friday May 22. The request for their police custody will be decided on Saturday May 23. Inspector Mukri with help of assistant sub inspectors Parameshwar and Narasimha and other personnel are conducting investigation, being guided by deputy superintendent of police D Dharmaiah.
