Udupi, May 25: The BJP-led state government is committed to protect the land that rightfully belongs to Karnataka, its water bodies and culture, while its main objective has been to work for the development of the entire state by staking claims to the funds rightfully due to it from the central government, said newly elected BJP MP from Udupi – Chikmagalur constituency, D V  Sadanand Gowda.

Sadanand Gowda was addressing a gathering of party workers and well-wishers, during the victory rally held at Kaup town, near here on Sunday May 24.   The rally was organized by Kaup block BJP.

“Pressure will be brought on the union government over the execution of the widening of the stretch of the national highway 17 that passes through the district, to upgrade Hejamady fisheries fort in addition to finding a permanent solution to the problem of sea erosion that has been threatening the west coast, MP Sadanand Gowda said.

He also assured the voters of his large constituency, that he would work for redressing several issues plaguing them.  He promised to undertake frequent trips across the constituency to ensure that no issues remain unaddressed before the next general elections in the country.

"The BJP welcomes all those disgruntled JDS party men, who have been sidelined by the JDS supremo Deve Gowda and his son H D Kumaraswamy.  The days of the JDS are numbered, since Kumaraswamy has made a desperate move to knock at  the doors of the Congress for a cabinet berth at the centre, as he has foreseen that he would not survive in the state politics," Gowda said.

State home minister Dr V S Acharya said that the development programmes undertaken by the state government have contributed to the success of MP Sadanand Gowda and urged him to try for getting union government  funds for state development.

Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon presided over the programme.  Speaking on the occasion, he said that setbacks in the recent general elections should not deter the BJP, and urged the local party activists to  make their impact felt in the coming  local body polls.

BJP state committee member Sheela K Shetty, district vice president Katpady Shankar Poojary, district leaders Vijay Kumar Udyavar, Udaykumar Shetty, Vijay Karkera, Gerald Fernandes, Geetanjali Suvarna, Mattar Ratnakar Hegde, Mahimkumar Hegde, Shyamala Kundar, Shivaraj Mallar, Kaup BJP block leaders Vasanti Madwaraj and Giridar Prabhu were present on the occasion.

Kaup block BJP president Ravindra Shetty Kollabettu welcomed the gathering.  Chief secretary Kutyar Navin Shetty proposed vote of thanks.  Divakar Shetty compered the programme.

"The issue of extending Bangalore – Mangalore passenger train up to Karwar in Uttara Kannada, will be taken up with union minister and Indian Railways, since it would directly contribute for the progress of west coast," Sadanand Gowda said.
