Mangalore, May 25: Two students from the colleges located in Dakshina Kannada district have scored first ranks in both medical and engineering categories, in the Common Entrance Test (CET) results published on Monday, May 25. In the medical category, the first rank holder is a student of St Aloysius Pre-university College while the topper in the engineering category is from Satya Sai Loka Seva Institutions in Alike, near Vittal.
A student of St Aloysius, Aneesh Bhat, a resident of Barebail in the city, is the CET (medical) first rank achiever, while the first rank holder in engineering, Naveen Bhat, is basically from Murdeswar in Uttara Kannada district, presently residing in Urva Store in the city, studied in SSLS institutions, Alike.
Aneesh Bhat is the son of Dr P S Bhat, a cardiologist in Omega Hospital in the city and his mother Hemalata Bhat is a house wife.
“He studied in a way other students too do, and he is not very hard working boy, even though he has secured the first rank in medical and 18th rank in engineering,” said Hemalata Bhat, who is busy celebrating her son’s achievement at her home.

“He is an intelligent student, so naturally he expected a rank even though not the first,” she gleefully confessed.
Aneesh Bhat has been actively participating in quiz contests and also is a recipient of scholarship from NTSE. He was one among the highest scorers in SSLC.
“I am discussing with my family members about my future course. But I am going in to the medical field,” Aneesh said.
Among his two elder sisters, Aparna is a surgeon in Mumbai, while Anupama is a final year engineering student in Bangalore.
Naveen Bhat, a student from Satyasai Loka Seva Educational Institutions in Alike, has scored first rank in engineering field.
He is the son of Y Umesh Bhat, a B Tech graduate, working as assistant engineer in the National Highways Authority in the city. His mother Vijayalakshmi is a housewife. The family is from Murdeshwar.
“I had not expected to secure this rank,” Naveen Bhat said while celebrating the unexpected success with his father’s colleagues in the premises of NH department office.
“My interest is to admit him into to the electronics and communications course in engineering,” said Umesh Bhat, adding that the family’s expectation was that he would score high marks. “But by securing the first rank, he has given us a big surprise,” he explained.
His mother Vijayalakshmi, a house wife, said the family extends heartfelt thanks to Alike College where he studied. Their style of teaching and the systems they follow enabled him to reach the top, she said. Her ambition is to see her son becoming a doctor, even though he is more inclined towards engineering. The family has a background of doctors and engineers too. Naveen has a sister Navya, studying in the ninth standard. Naveen joined Satya Sai Loka Seva institution, when he was in the ninth standard.
