Daijiworld Media Network- Mangalore (RS/SP)

Mangalore, May 26: Negligent driving of a KSRTC bus driver resulted in taking away the life of an  aspiring nurse, in an accident that occurred near Karavali circle in Kankanady on Tuesday, May 26.

Resident of Maduva in Vogga,Venilda Roslyn Lobo(19) was the victim who lost her life due to the negligence of the  KSRTC bus driver. The bus ran over her body, at a time when she outstretched her hand, signaling the driver to stop the bus to take a ride, causing instant death at around 11.30 am on Tuesday May 26.

The bus (KA 19 F 2175) was on its way to Dharmastala. Venilda had planned to catch the bus to go to her home. Bus driver Basavaraju (badge no. 7962) was taken away by the policemen.

She was on her return home, after getting admission in Fr Muller nursing college today, after her efforts to get a seat in this college bore fruits. Her uncle was also with her at the time of the accident, but was a little away from her.

Hailing from a poor family, Venilda finished her 12th standard in St Ann’s College in the city. To fulfill her aspirations of becoming a nurse, her parents tried to get her admitted to nursing course. Her father, Felix Lobo, is a labouror. Vanilda’s elder brother affected by polio and  her younger brother is studying.

Kadri Police have registered a case in this regard.

Heart felt Condolences to the family! May her soul rest in peace! The Option of stopping buses anywhere other than bus stop should be banned legally, so that people stop waving at buses and also drivers follow this strictly. More rules followed less accidents. Agree, easier said than done esp. in India where laws are different for different people!!! Truth is bitter and many cannot digest the facts. I love India but hate the system and have also realized you have to be nasty to get into the system & break it! Hats off to those who can fix issues.

lets look at it in this way. If the girl was waving her hand for the bus to stop, and disregarding this if the driver cintinued to move on ( most of them do this if its not a bus stop) then why dint the girl move backwards or why was she on the road in the first place... A driver has more responsibility than lookin at just who''s crossing.. people heve to be more carefull on the roeads esp when its a known fact as how the drivers drive the buses on the roads.. If she was more carefull and take a bus at a bus stop or even give way seein the bus not stoppin could have avoided this incident... people plz be carefull we have to look for our own life out here not others..... for the girl very sorry about it... MAy her Soul rest in Peace..

It isn''t the first or the last time this is happening. I lost my brother in1967 just the previous day of christmas,by the negligence of a bus driver at the tender age of 8 a life lost, the value of it can never be compensated by money or anything. What he might have achieved had that accident not taken place. Nobody can take or lessen the pain & sorrow of the family members, which only they can experience. Still v pray for the departed soul & her bereaved family members.

It is high time that drivers employed in pubic transport services be provided additional training and instruction so as to make them totally aware, responsible and fully concerned about the public in general and passengers in particular. Stringent punishment must be meted out  to those found guilty of harsh and reckless driving. My heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the sorrowing family of Venilda Lobo

This is very very bad , is the human life so cheap, that any one can kill , or are we human''s are treating other humans as , insects that can be smashed for. truly in todays world there is no value for human, they have been slautered like sheep''s & goats, we dont know when the goverment law will open thier eyes, may be in the place of Venilda, if there had been any ministers daughter, then there would be a serious action taken, other wise for a common man its an common thing, comman life, death, I heartly pray to the allmighty, to have prepared an Insecticide which will kill all the insect''s that are trying to destory good human beings.

I am sorry to say this but I have to make point. Any mistake that takes someone’s life is not a mistake it’s a crime. We have to look at the entire thing from a higher ground. It’s a failure of the entire system. It is the failure of all the system that is meant to make sure that this kind of incidents does not happen. The question of who’s at fault? Everybody from the traffic police, drivers, owners and we the citizen of the City and this Country.

Think about it for a min. we have traffic Police who is not able to control the traffic, seems like people on the road do fear the traffic police and manager to break the rules right in front of them. Then we have the bus drivers who are racing away on the road as if it’s a Racing Game like Need for Speed in real life. One must see the way they drive no one will drive their car of bike that way. If that is not enough they blow there horns which no one has any problem with,

I have nothing to say about the owners coz they are just not concerned other than the simple economics. The “Chalta Hai” attitude will not work for long now. What are we (including me as well) doing other than sitting here on our seats and just commenting on incidents like these? Its time to make change and this type of people (Drivers, Owner and even traffic police) must be shown that the result of taking a human life is not few years in jail or fine but there is a greater responsibility and price to pay. As I always say ''God made Man, Man made Economics''. Sumit Jaswal

It is not a Rupee show it is a lakhs show to get the bus on route .It is easy for people like you to comment but what can the bus owner do if the driver does something wrong? Please before comment something just think about the other person who earns his leaving by the particular source, guilty should be punish ,punish the driver not the owner...

FORGET PITY AT THIS STAGE. I think the transport company resposible for this accident should now pay BLOOD MONEY. As this is a very poor family and loss of a child is a great loss. I am sure the Bus driver had no intention of stopping and was also overspeeding. If the company is not strict with its employees this is the result. A case of murder has to be register against the company and the driver.

Valinda would have been the sole support for the family. How difficulties might have taken by the parent for bring her up. She too might have seen many visions and dreams of her future life.I notice may of the city bus drivers and long distance bus drivers, especially express bus drivers,do not give sufficent time for the passengers to board the bus or getting down the passengers.Buses which ply outskirts of the city , drivers do not bother about the safty of bye-passers.Roads are narrow, school children, senior citizens, womens young ladys, girls and boys, there is not safty.Govt and authorities of trafic police should take of some follow action towards the speeding traffic to control the tragic accident like Valinda. I only pray that the parents of Valinda and relatives may get strength to over come the pains.May her soul be rest in peace.

I was deeply saddened to hear this news. What a cruel world we live in. Reckless driving in Mangalore has to STOP. People should protest until this problem has been resolved. How many more lives should we lose before anything is done. May Her Soul Rest in Peace, and may her family find the strength to bear this loss.

May Almighty God grant peace to Venilda. May Almighty God strength to the family to bear the loss. Is it necessary that some one should die before the people concerned open their eyes. What do the people in road and transport department do? When they collect taxes don''t they have the responsibility to ensure the safety of those who travel on the road. Can''t they go round and see how people in the neighbouring state or in the other countries manage traffic and look after the safety of travellers? Looks that our people''s duty stops with the collection of taxes.

Saddening fact is that her family -as mentioned in Daiji is already under so many tough conditionsto lead life. Its heartbreaking looking at her innocent facee.Equally gorious act was commited by a truck driver in Banglore 2 days ago when the truck took a sudden right turn in Magadi road, hit a 2 wheeler & killed both the parents of a 1 year old child !!

Sometime back, I had seen a couple being crushed under a JCB. The husband & wife had dropped their 2 kids to school & were going to their office in 2 wheeler in ring road. Husband saw the red traffic light and stopped. The JCB behind wanted to cross red signal and in turn crushed them !! These drivers are either drunk or dont need drinks to get high. They need to be punished severely.

Law is so poor in hit & run cases. Else how could you imagine Salman Khan still enjoying his film career after crushing 6 people & that too drunk?

This reckless driving is not only by the KSRTC buses, but also by pvt buses also, yesterday evening(26/5) when i was returning back from baikampady, near panambur a pvt bus took the wrong road (other side) and hit a two wheeler head on right in front of me. These drivers should be stone pelted on the spot and the bus should be burnt. Only then will the owners and drivers will learn a lesson about safety and proper driving

I agree with Mohammed Rizwan. As the road is in construction phase, it becomes the prime task of police/ rto authority to maintain the traffic flow. Everyone would like our Mangalore to get developed. But i really condemn any cost of life for this development. Foremost, lane discipline is not followed here. Private buses tries to compete with KSRTC bus. This creates chaos in the city. We were nearly hit by a private bus who was desperate to overtake the KSRTC bus. However, when we intervened the bus and questioned the driver, the result was as usual goondaism. Here, its the responsibility of each citizen to be safe and help people to be safe. My deep condolences to her family. Let her soul rest in peace. RIP sister.

How can a reckless KSRTC bus driver can distroy the life of this teenager? Is it because of negligence or drunken driving ? This type of accidents happen due to the easy law of our country where anybody can escape doing any sin. Even i had lost one of my close young relative due to KSRTC drivers in Mangalore Hampankattà and it will take a long time from Court to get the compensation that too never worthy and driver will be no doubt driving the same KSRTC bus for ever. Mangalore was supposed to get Government buses on routes , most of our ksrtc drivers come on the basis of influence or reservation Quota who dosent have any manners /talents to drive.

Let me first extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. May the void created by this promising girl be filled by the Blessings of the Almighty. Let the blind eyes of the KSRTC open now to sincerely check the credentials of the staff they appoint. I feel KSRTC would have ed a person with a bogus certificate without verifying his credentials or else tragedy of this foolish nature would not have happened. If this person had to move over a person who has stretched her hand, he should be immediately suspended from work and never reinstated so that others really know that mistakes of this type will not be tolerated. I sincerely feel except for the Airavath Drivers who are mostly from the coastal belt experienced and well mannered, the other Drivers should be given good training not only in driving but also in communication. Now will the State Transport Minister rise up to give a suitable compensation to the bereaved family. The KSRTC should immediately compensate the family. I request the local representative, the local MLA and the Local MP to come forward and help the family to get a suitable compensation which would go a long way in reposing faith in the Elected Representatives.

Very Shocking! Why not the drivers of the buses can''t drive slowly in the city limits? Is there any organization to create awareness of the danger among the bus drivers? An aspiring student after getting admission in the nursing college lost her life because of reckless driving. This is really pathetic. May Almighty God give strength to her family to overcome the grievance.

Pathetic and very sad, we have lost one aspiring nurse and I cannot understand why driver has to drive speed in the city limits. The regional transport authority should take stringent action against reckless and irresponsible drivers. Accident can happen with anyone, but reckless driver like Basavaraju should be given maximum punishment that will give caution to other reckless drivers. May her soul rest in peace.

Once again, Mangalore has demonstrated that she has grown out of control! Our police system has become incompetent. The driving regulations are not being followed and enforced. The recklessness driving has claimed an innocent victim, a budding Indian Citizen, taking her dream. The driver must be brought to justice and made an example to ALL other reckless driver''s of Mangalore, who fearlessly drive their machines in a reckless manner to kill people. Their competition, lack of respect for passengers, and irresponsible life style makes them "unfit" as drivers, no different that a drunken driver, their driver’s license shall be revoked for good and they shall be put into prison. The law must be applied colorlessly and his company must be held liable for millions of damages because this is an act of homicide. His company failed to instruct its drivers the requirement of “public safety” when they drive the vehicles. The Mnaglore Judge must issue a "Restrining Order" against the KSTRC to stop all busses until KSRTC trains the driver''s for six months about the public health and safety. Any private bus company who engages into reckless driving must also be subjected similar restraining order. It is time Citizens stand up for their rights of protection and road safety. How to comfort the family, who lost the precious child? This is shear madness by the driver. All Mangalorean bus drivers must undergo six months of class room “public health and safety” training before they are granted license to drive buses and trucks. Our heartfelt condolences to the family, who worked so hard to give good education and this KSTRC reckless driver took away the dreams of the family and that of young girl.

Very sad and unfortunate. May her soul rest in eternal peace. I have been reading a lot in recent times about accidents where drivers of the vehicles are at fault. But so far I have not heard or read about harsh punishment given to the offenders. As usual no doubt this driver too will get bail and after some time shall be acquitted and will go scot free. There are lawyers to fight for his case but these lawyers must understand and take lead role in punishing the guilty so that such fatal accident dont occur quite often. The system of blood money payment as in the case of Gulf countries is good to curb such accidents.
