Mangaluru, Jul 24: The health condition of Diksha (22), who was seriously injured in the stabbing incident that took place at Bagambila of Deralakatte near here on June 28, is improving. She has been shifted from Intensive care unit to the ward of the hospital where she was treated, on Wednesday, July 24. 

Accused Sushanth (28), who was injured as he tried to slit his throat after stabbing Diksha, had recovered in 8 days after the incident and was produced in court. He is in judicial custody now. 

Love failure was the reason for this barbaric act by Sushanth. 

Diksha (20), who was residing and studying MBA in a private college in Karkala had arrived to her home at Deralakatte on the evening of Friday, June 28 and was proceeding towards her home after getting down from the bus near the Kshema Hospital. Sushanth, who was waiting for her, followed her in scooter and stabbed her 12 times after blocking her way and also tried to kill himself by slitting his throat repeatedly with the same knife. The locals and ambulance personnel got both of them admitted to the hospital later. 

It is learnt that Sushanth, a dancer, knew Diksha since about six years and reportedly he was in love with her. Diksha too has been undergoing dance training. Since the last some months, however, Diksha is said to be maintaining discreet distance from Sushanth. After she joined postgraduate degree course at Karkala, Sushanth had come near her college at Karkala and harassed her. A complaint had been registered relating to this incident there. A case was registered in Ullal police station. A video captured by the general public had become viral in the social media. 

Award to nurse 

A hospital nurse named Nimmi had helped Diksha to get admitted to the hospital. When the attacker was moving with the knife, she had dared to stop him from further stabbing the girl and had taken initiative to take the injured to the hospital. Now Nimmi has been chosen for a state-level award titled National Florence of Nightingale which will be presented to her next week.
