Mangaluru Jul 24: Income Tax, Mangaluru Department, observed Income Tax Day, here at IMA House, Attavar on Wednesday, July 24.

Addressing the gathering, cardiologist Dr B M Hegde said," It’s been a privilege to be part of this programme and the department is doing tremendous service. Hatred is the worst enemy of our health. You need to work hard, think about others and make others happy. Don’t hate others, treat everyone equally. Hatred is inner quality of mind which needs to be suppressed.”

He also said, “Love your work. If you love your work, it does not matter if you work 24 hours. If you start hating your work, then you start taking lot of rest instead of spending time in your work. Treat everyone equally. It may be with high profile people or with the peon, the attitude has to be same.”

Principal commissioner of Income Tax Mangaluru, Narottam Mishra said, "July 24, 1860 was when the first IT Act was formed. So we are celebrating this day as Income Tax Day and have celebrated it in a big way. Now we are following IT Act 1961. There are several challenges such as maximizing volunteer compliance and it has to be increased. People want to follow the rules but at the same time, we need to facilitate them to pay the due taxes.”

Commissioner of Income Tax (appeals) Mangaluru Dr S Shakir Hussain said," We have to look into how public sees our department, what are their expectations and where we stand. We have been successful in providing our services like e-filing, and with this refund process has become faster. We need to be polite and nice to our tax payers which give positive image about our department.”

Additional commissioner S Nambirajan welcomed the gathering.

Nathalia Helen Lobo compered the event.

Additional commissioner K A Chandrakumar and joint commissioner Saurabh Tiwari were present.
