Mangalore: Ore Trucks throw Traffic on NH 17 out of Gear

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jun 8: The number of ore trucks arriving at the local port has seen a sudden spurt after their entry was barred in Karwar port some time back.; The traffic on national highway 17 between Kottara in the city to Panambur was severely disrupted on Sunday June 7, as ore-laden trucks made a beeline to the city in hundreds.

As the buses plying on this road to various destinations including Udupi, Karkala etc., suffered time-lags, people were put to unnecessary inconveniences. The fact that numerous auspicious occasions had been scheduled for Sunday worsened the situation further. Some of the buses as a result, took alternative routes. Some buses reportedly cut short the number of trips because of the traffic woes.

As the port yard could not accommodate hundreds of trucks that came in at a time, trucks were found parked haphazardly all over the national highway. Trucks had also been parked around the two bridges in Kuloor. The pounding rains made the matters worse. By 12 pm, the policemen could bring back normalcy in the traffic.

It is learnt, the district administration of Dakshina Kannada has requested the government not to issue any additional permits to ore trucks, other than those already plying to the port. The mines and geology department to which the request was made, does not seem to have paid heed to this request, going by the way the ore trucks have taken to roads again, after a brief respite.

Mr.Brijesh & Subhas,It is ok to express your thoughts, but NOT ok to get personal. May i say that you have suddenly come to senses after a long coma. Two years back the government was a coalition between HDK and BSY and they were in power for 20 long months, where HDK was CM and BSY was Dy.CM, what did they do...absolutely nothing, and if I am not wrong Mangalore has been a stronghold of BJP for a long long time, why did they not develop it? Please don''t just comment for the heck of it!!!

Dr. Haneef shabab. the highways repairs were never stopped, and it was not after a belated central intervention at all. the center has been dragging its feet on the highway development, the moment they came into power. they dont want the credit to go to vajapayee. thats one reason congress is disgusting. They chose not to invest in infrastructure for one disgusting personal reason

For people who remind this is a bjp brought disaster - you have news. the mining license that  the reddy''s have was given by the GSI - a central agency and also a political decision to thank Sonia to win from Bellary. So its both congress and BJP who have brought about this mess. Ii think we need mass agitation and also protest, blocking the highways completely for the trucks.

It seems these "Mine Lords" (The Reddys) by the grace of Yeddi, are going to suck every of blood from "Karnataka Mathe" (as the Milk is already dried up, thanks to the previous regimes) and change this heaven into a HELL. We the public have to pay TAXES and made to suffer in every walk of life. And the "Political Mafia" and Business Tycoons evade the Taxes and enjoy the life by getting every thing they want. What a pity. For quite a long because of these Mine Lorrys the Highways in Uttara Kannda and Dakshina Kannda were in such a bad condition that it was looking like "Hellways". Distruption in normal traffic and daily loss of precious lives in accidents was order of the day. Then came a standstill in Mine Trafficking because of sharp decrease in Ore prices and low demand in China. So when the Highways were repaired (at the Central Government''s instance) there was a sigh of relief in genral public. Now as this monster has raised its head once again, along with the Monsoon, there is much more in stock to suffer. save us God!

Mr. Rajesh and Mr. Brijesh seems like you guys are spokespersons/ activists of the respective political parties. Please rememeber we need to be united as indians in trying to solve issues, rather than accusations which will land us no where.

We are on blame game as usual. Every political party is after money and only money because they have to contest the next election and spend heavily. They dont give a damn to the public inconvenience because they are very sure that public will never raise voice and if at all they do it is only for a very short period then sleep for long . . . . JAI HO!

Yes Brijesh you are correct. Mr. Rajesh is talking like opposition party leader in vidhana soudha. If he saw mangalore 2 years ago then he wouldn''t have told this is just because of present BJP govt''s ruling. This is just for information how many trucks our Deshpande is having?

Don''t know when will this iron-ore mining ends. Atleast NMPT can take some actions to cut-down the intake of ore lorries per day. The drivers of these trucks are arrogant and misbehaving. Who will teach them

You are right Mr Rajesh...Your comment clearly state that you were not alive when congress was ruling the state. BJP just started to rule out nearly 1 year back. due you think before that our mangalore was full clean and green? before wen congress was ruling, remember it was difficult to travel in roads especially this surathkal and panambur. but now it is far better...

When money talks, rules are silent. How will the Reddys earn wealth otherwise? Care a damn to public inconvenience. This is nothing but BJP''s development mantra.
