Bengaluru: Will not support BJP govt - JD(S) supremo Deve Gowda

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Jul 28: H D Deve Gowda, former Prime Minister and chief of JD(S) has clearly stated that his party will not support the B S Yeddyurappa-led BJP government. He said that his party will pay a positive opposition role. Deve Gowda cleared the air about the confusion as a section of the JD(S) legislators had asked him to support the BJP government.

Speaking to the reporters after a meeting with party MLAs on Saturday, senior party leader G T Devegowda had said that while some of the legislators of JD(S) want to sit in the opposition, others suggested that the party should support BJP from outside.

B S Yeddyurappa was sworn-in as the chief minister on Friday, after the former coalition government of JD(S) and Congress could not prove its majority on the floor of the house on Tuesday.

Deve Gowda said, "JD(S) is going to play the role of a constructive opposition party. As a regional party, we will oppose what we have to and if Yeddyurappa does something good for the state, we will welcome the same."

"There is nothing to get surprised by the statement of supporting BJP. The intention of our senior party leader G T Devegowda was in the good interest of the state so that the finance bill gets passed before July 31 as the budget was presented by Kumaraswamy," added H D Deve Gowda.

Deve Gowda further clarified that the intention of the statement of G T Devegowda was that JD (S) will not oppose every move of BJP just because we are not in the government. He also said that the agony of losing the power within 14 months is felt by both the JD(S) and Congress.

The former PM also welcomed the statement of CM Yeddyurappa saying that he will not play revenge politics. H D Deve Gowda also explained the sufferings H D Kumaraswamy had to undergo because of certain coalition issues.

Giving full marks to the way Kumaraswamy ruled for 14 months, Deve Gowda said, "I know everything of what my son Kumaraswamy underwent during the coalition rule. He had wept in front of the JP Bhavana not able to bear the humiliation inflicted on him because he was the chief minister in the coalition."

The former PM also said that he is not concerned about the fall of the coalition government and has the support of committed workers of his party to back up. He promised to put in all efforts to save his party.

Congress despite being 70 seats gave yours a little lift , cos they could survive. So they just hung on yours for 14 months unconditionally as you enjoyed. No party with morals would approach you with such a condition.

Now he sheds crocodile tears about the "genuine" party workers as he failed in providing any reward for their work. This complaint was there from day one of forming the chor bhanda govt. Please do not support. It is enough on Chou Chow Sarkar. Let it be Pres rule or fresh elections. Let a single largest party emerge and form a Govt.
