Mangaluru: Hall management, organiser booked for causing traffic chaos

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jul 29: In pursuance of stricter posture acquired by the police department against those causing traffic problems by way of parking vehicles haphazardly and in no parking zones, the traffic police have registered a case against a convention centre in the city. The case was registered in the city (west) traffic police station on Sunday, July 28.

The case was registered under section 283 of Indian Penal Code relating to blocking of traffic. Owner and manager of Dr T M A Pai Convention Centre at Kodialbail here as well as organizers of the function in the said hall have been booked. They have been charged with creating bottlenecks in the traffic on the road opposite the hall by way of parking of about 25 vehicles on both the sides of the said road.

The police said that the parked vehicles not only occupied footpaths on both sides of the road which caused inconvenience to the general public but also functioned as hindrance in the movement of movement emergency vehicles.

A suggestion here. The halls within city, like Raman Pai and TMA Pai Convention Hall, could explore getting into arrangement with City Centre, Bharath Mall or Hampankatta old bus stand authorities to contain excess vehicles that cannot be accommodated in their parking areas. Valets could be arranged, or transport between venue and parking area so that guests are not troubled nor the public. Cost could be born by the individual guests just like they do if they park in City Centre or Bharath Mall. This would require involvement of police, hall authorities and parking lot authorities of course with cooperation and participation by invitees of any function. Even invitation cards could provide details of available parking spots at venue and nominated alternatives to give heads up to invitees. Food for thought...

forget about this hall. recently Udupi - Manipal road was expanded by acquiring extra space from both the side. but now the cars are parked on both side of road & this road become narrow comparing to earlier old road. daily there is a road block during peak hour. Then what is the use of expansion of road by spending crores of money. Why RTO/police depts. are silent on this issue

What about traffic block & parkings done on Footpath on light house hill near the mosque on Fridays.

All vehicles are parked in such a way that there is no place for people to walk on footpath .

Yesterday I was on highway from kasaragod to mangalore.
There was roadblocks in 6 areas.
Reason- weddings in halls built on highway road side.
I really can't understand why permission is given for such halls near highway without proper parking facilities .

It's not only hall owners, people attending function should also be held responsible for causing inconvenience, which has become norm over the years.o

I was in one of the vehicles in the block caused by a function Sunday afternoon, and to my surprise, some boys, near the entrance of the hall were trying to stop public vehicles to make way for the vehicles of the invitees. While most of the vehicles were KA20 registered, few police personnel present there could not act in time.

I request the Police should take undertakings from the organisers / Caterers and the owners of the Hall, that they would ensure smooth traffic flow with sufficient traffic wardens. The caterers should inform Police of any gathering of more than 1000 people as they are the people who prepare the food and would know in advance the crowd density.

How can be the owner of the hall held responsible for cars parked outside? If the owner goes to court, police will have golibaje for sure!

There should be some logic when you book cases. If I have to go to police station and I park my car outside the police station, blocking traffic, would the police register a case on themselves too?

Hall management and organiser have not told invitees to come in vehicles. Traffic Police can only seize the car and fine them. If sufficient place is not arranged by the hall owners, how our MCC have given permission for consideration of hall ?? I don't agree with our Traffic department for booking hall management and Organiser.

This should be done to all hall owners. Also permission should be cancelled to those halls who disturb by loud sound speakers. One side we ban shrill horns but these marriage halls are the big sound makers.

Good move by the police. The police should do this on a daily basis in Mangalore, so that people drivers/riders wouldn't dare to park on the footpath. The police should know that it is a on going process.
