Mangaluru: Nurse Nimmi Stephen who helped victim under attack gets state award

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jul 30: Nimmi Stephen has been serving K S Hegde Medical College Hospital, Deralakatte near here as staff nurse. She had recently saved the life of a girl who was stabbed repeatedly by her male friend in the middle of the road in broad daylight near the hospital. In recognition of exemplary courage and presence of mind exhibited by the staff nurse in saving the lady, she has been considered best nurse of the state and hence been selected for the state level Florence Nightingale Award that is given to nurses with outstanding service in their profession.

An MBA student of a college in Nitte near Karkala was stabbed multiple times by her friend on June 28 reportedly for rejecting his proposal. The stalker had inflicted 12 stab injuries on her besides wounding himself in a bid to take away his own life. When the local people tried to stop him from attacking the victim, he menacingly flashed his knife and kept them at bay.

At this time, Nimmi tactfully held him backwards and shifted the girl to the ambulance. The girl was immediately rushed to the hospital. As Nimmi risked her own life to save the girl's life, she has been chosen for the Florence Nightingale Award. The award was presented to her on Monday.

Congratulations Nimmi on winning the award and the exemplary courage you have shown in saving the life of the girl. Glad the girl is out of danger and can live her normal life again. The guy should be sent for counselling as taking someone's life is an offence as much as you take your own.

Congratulations Nurse Nimmi. When I saw the video I was shocked at the courage you showed
to save the girl. You didn't waste one second and if not for your courage the girl would not have
survived. When others were just planning to help by saving their own life you didn't care about your life.
You just rushed to the girl with bare hands. At that time I felt your service has to be recognised.
Now I am very happy that you have won this award

Im very proud of Kerala. Nimmy Stephen from Payyavoor in Kerala’s Kannur district. God blessed kerala with brave, Educated and intellectuals. Keeping BJP, or the sick minded bhakts away from power really made kerala a different state to feel proud.. A essence of Real india remains here only.

We laud Nimmi for her valour, for risking her life to save another life and not for her religion or origin. And as for the so called 'educated and intellectuals' even Kerala doesn’t lag behind in crimes like murders, political killings, rapes, smuggling, terrorism, ISIS connections and so on. Be it UDF or LDF, the situation doesn't seem to improve. It won’t be a surprise if a third front with BJP’s support takes over the state.

Congratulations Nimmi Stephen . You are a brave heart and you beyond your call off duty to save the life of an innocent girl and a loving daughter. We all saw the video where all ‘brave men’ with sticks and stones ran away but only you had the guts and courage and with your bare hands worked like Goliath to take on the killer and rescue the victim. God bless you for your courage and congratulations to your family for instilling love and compassion to all fellow beings. May your tribe increase.
