Mangaluru, Jul 30: A woman from near Suratkal lost her ornaments worth over Rs 14 lac during her train journey by CST Express train to Mumbai on the night of July 21. She has filed a complaint in Panvel railway station near Mumbai about the theft of these ornaments.

The complainant happens to be Geetha Nadar (48), residing at second cross, Parameshwari Nagar, Chokkabettu, Krishnapura near Suratkal. Geetha had boarded the CST Express train to Mumbai at 5.15 pm from Suratkal station along with her son, Pradeep Nadar for attending a birthday party there. They occupied seat Nos. 68 and 69 of S-5 coach of the said train. Both were awake till the train reached Ratnagiri railway station in Maharashtra after which both fell asleep. Geetha had placed her handbag near her head when falling asleep. When the train stopped at Roha station signal at 6.45 am on July 22, Geetha observed that the zip of her bag was open. On a closer verification, she found that gold ornaments weighing about 60 sovereigns, valued at Rs 14.8 lac which were placed inside a small pouch inside the handbag had gone missing. Her cellphone and cash were intact inside the bag.

As the train does not have scheduled stop at Roha, she got down at Panvel railway station and filed complaint in the railway police station there.

Geetha, speaking to a Kannada daily, said that the compartment in which she travelled had eight passengers and that there was no security. The police were never seen inside the compartment during the entire journey, she revealed.
