Bengaluru: BJP cancelled Tipu Jayanti because of enmity with minority - Siddaramaiah

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Jul 30: Former CM Siddaramaiah has opined that BJP has cancelled the Tipu Jayanti celebration because of their enmity on the minority community.

Speaking to the reporters in the city, the former CM said, "Cancellation of Tipu Jayanti is a severe crime. Tipu is a king not limited to the minority community. He was the great patriot who fought with the British as a king of Mysore. He was the one who laid foundation for the construction of Krishnarajasagar (KRS) dam."

"Tipu had contributed a lot for Industrial, agricultural and commercial development of Mysore area. So we decided to celebrate his birthday during our regime. Excepting this, we did not have any other motive. The cancellation of Tipu Jayanti is a serious crime. This shows the anti-minority policy of the government. I vehemently object to this," said Siddaramaiah.

Tipu Jayanti celebrations were started by the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government on November 10, 2016. The same was continued by the coalition government-led by H D Kumaraswamy.

BJP had promised in its 2018 assembly election manifesto of cancelling the Tipu Jayanti celebration if they assume power in the state.

Mr. Siddaramaiah was a good CM in many respects but his idea of Tippu Jayanti was a big blunder. Tippu was a good warrior but was a fanatic and ruthless ruler who had killed thousands of Christians as well as Hindus. He had fought against the British only for the sake of power and throne. He wanted to eliminate the entire Christian community under his rule. But God was not on his side. God was with the oppressed people. Fortunately Tippu lost the war and died. All Christians have welcomed the decision of the present state government of cancelling the Tippu Jayanti.

Siddanna, there is no majority or minority. We are all Indians. First correct your emotional feelings right. There is no need to appeasement of the so called minorities as everyone feels Tippu has done more damage to the state instead of development.

Congress is smart enough to understand the motives of the Karnataka BJP government.

Now with the 20 MLA's disqualified from the assembly, re-election is the next step if Supreme Court accepted the speakers' disqualification.

So BJP is ruling now something communal it wants to keep boiling the pot till the bye-election are held.
Tipu Jayanti is the smart way, to bring Christians to their fold just like North-Eastern state and sideline Muslims. The little swing of Christian voters into BJP will be deciding factor when the party having the wafer-thin majority.

The opposition party president should be careful in the selection of his words. Otherwise, BJP will tag Congress Muslim appeasement and they're by consolidating on majority vote banks.

It should also be noted that this is the same BJP leaders once willingly participated in Tipu Jayanti in the past. Even RSS has written the book in his appreciation.

Hon’ble President Ramnath Kovind visited Karnataka and brought himself to the center of an ongoing controversy over the 18th-century ruler’s legacy. On the occasion of Vidhan Soudha’s diamond jubilee celebrations in Bengaluru, Kovind said on 25 October, “Tipu Sultan died a heroic death fighting the British.

Tipu has a place in history.

2018 assembly election vote share polled like this.
    Congress 38%
    BJP 36%
    JDS 8%
    Others 3%
Even in Loksabha polls BJP able to got only appx.35-36%vote share in national level. So my friend Bjp always gain upper hand just coz of the reason that opponents are divide. No due to Hindu votes. Very simple logic

By simply doing away with Tippu Jayanti, are we distancing ourselves from History. Why this kind of feeling was not there earlier; we all celebrated each and every Jayanti - be it Hindu, Christian, Muslim, Sikh, Jain and others - India is the fertile land of all religions. Why people are given wrong signals. I do not follow any party - but having had these celebrations while we were small kids, doing away puts some kind of doubts in our minds. Do we have to change the system as soon as another party takes over? What does this suggest? I am in my late sixtees, but I feel quite disappointed.

    Very true, Mr Almeida.
Soon after Tipu inherited the territory from his father Hyder Ali in January 1784, he issued orders to seize the Christians in Canara, confiscate their estates, and deport them to Seringapatam. His orders were carried out on 24 Feb 1784. 20,000 Christians died during the journey from Mangalore to Seringapatam. During captivity they suffered extreme hardships, torture, rape, death and persecutions with many Christians forcibly converted to Islam. The captivity brought the flourishing Christian community in Mangalore to near extermination and ended only when Tipu was killed by the British at the Battle of Seringapatam on 4 May 1799.
Now His Highness David Pais will understand why you were referring to Mangalore Christians.

Yaddi has fabricated face . When he has in his own party (KJP) he celebrated Tippu Jayanti by holding green ornate turban and with a sword in his hand. Now he is against on it. Tippu Sulthan is real patriot and real Hero. He was only against the one who link with British and he wasn't against with civilian.
