Mangalore: 'Development of Poor Sections of Society, Our Priority - CM

Mangalore, Jun 12: The state government headed by the BJP is stepping ahead with the aim of empowering the poor people to in all the fields and ways, said chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, speaking at the ‘Vikasa Sankalp’ programme organized in the city to celebrate the first anniversary of the state government’s rule.
The former governments formed by other parties in the state had failed to utilize the resources by allocating them for the welfare of the public and the poor sections of the society. So we have failed to realize the real meaning of the independence that we secured in the year 1947. We can claim to have got real independence, only after the developmental works are executed and the welfare of the general public is achieved, said Yeddyurappa.
Speaking after the programme, ‘Vikasa Sankalp Utsav,’ was inaugurated in a traditional manner as prevalent in Tulunadu at T M A Pai International Convention Centre, he listed out the programmes taken up by his government during the last one year for the betterment of the people. He also said that the government has major plans to take up developmental initiatives in fisheries department and also to help the fishermen.
The programme was arranged jointly for three districts, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Chikmagalur. Senior officials from these districts apart from the leaders and workers took part in the programme. The CM distributed the certificates of facilities to ten beneficiaries from each of the three districts.
Krisna Palemar, district In-charge minister, welcomed the audience and every one else present at the programme. Home minister V S Acharya, D V Sadanand Gowda, BJP state president, Nalin kumar Kateel, member of parliament, City mayor Shankar Bhat, Yogish Bhat, MLA, Sudhakar Rao, state chief secretary and others also addressed the gathering. V Ponnuraj, district deputy commissioner, proposed vote of thanks.
The Chief Minister, during his day-long visit to the city, inaugurated the new building of Vikas College of Physiotherapy and later inaugurated the facilities at the regional advanced pediatric care centre near the Wenlock Hospital.
Later in the day, he is scheduled to inaugurate the office of the Coastal Development Authority located in the City Corporation building and inspect the ongoing road development undertaken by the Corporation under the Rs 100 crore grant sanctioned by the state government.
