Keri, Aug 4: Danger alert has been issued to residents around banks of Valvanti, after water resources department opened three gates out of four to release water on the Anjunem dam. The incident took place on Saturday, when the water level in the dam reached 91.46m which made it necessary to be released.
The reservoir water level increased after severe rainfall was recorded. However, the release of water is not to raise alarm, it is more likely to be released to avoid flood like situation in any given time. Locals belonging to Keri, Morle and Poriem areas and Sankali town have been informed regarding the water release from the dam.
The Valvanti originates in Chorla in Karnataka and makes its way to Virdi in Maharashtra before entering Shiroli in Goa.
Kattika nallah on which Maharashtra is building the Virdi dam is also overflowing along with mud from embankments.
