Panaji: 36 Freedom Fighters to be honoured on June 18

Panaji, Jun 13:  The government of Goa has decided to felicitate 36 freedom fighters for their contribution to the freedom struggle of Goa, on the occasion of Goa Revolution Day to be observed on June 18, 2009, at a function to be held at the foot of the Martyrs’ Memorial here.

Governor of Goa Dr Shivinder Singh Sidhu and Chief Minister Digambar Kamat will felicitate the freedom fighters at a solemn function to be held at the Azad Maidan.

The freedom fighters to be honoured are: Gajanan V Bhosle, Aldona, Nakul Krishna Parab (Posthumous), Sindhudurg, Anant P Lawande, Calangute, Rajendra Babani Naik, Canocona, Balaji S Pai, Canacona, Sudam Mortu Shirodkar, Siolim, Tukaram Mahadev Shirodkar, Siolim, Namdev Narcinva Lotlikar, Assolna, Pandary Naik Dessai (Posthumous), Cuncolim, Chandrakant Naik (Posthumous), Goa Velha,  Anand Dattaram Kavlekar, Mapusa, Subhaschandra Gawas (Posthumous), Mapusa, Ramakant Damodar Kesarkar, Margao, Ulhas Govind Naik, Neura, Narendra Damodar Pai Angle, Chinchinim, Laximan Nagesh Naik, Panaji, Dina Babusao Tari (Posthumous), Ponda, Shushila Narayan Padiyar, Cuncolim, Anant Shridhar Prabhu Dessai (Posthumous), Canacona, Jiu Kusta Velip (Posthumous), Quepem, Damodar Datta Narvekar (Posthumous), Sanquelim, Gopi Vithoba Shetkar, Keri, Ghanashyam M S Kantak, Panaji, Liberato Martires Pio Rodrigues, Assolna, Pandurang alias Manohar Sitaram Kanekar, Ponda, Shankar Narayan Gad (Posthumous), Pernem, Vencu Pundalik Raikar Quindro, Orlem, Salcete, Vishwanath Krishna Shet (Posthumous), Kumbarjua, Raghuvir Vasudev Redkar (Posthumous), Parra, Shamsundar Narayan Chari, Mapusa, Laxman Bhiko Kansar, Bicholim, Vidhyadhar Vassudev Shirodkar, Bicholim, Yeshwant Naik (Posthumous), Mumbai, Pandurang Datta Narvekar (Posthumous), Sanquelim, Rajaram Chari (Posthumous), Shirgao and Pandurang Vassu Shirodkar (Posthumous), Siolim.

    Our freedom fighters sacrificed their careers and security so that others may have a life of dignity, freedom and independence. Hats off to those guys who showed what it means to be a citizen of Bharat Mata. Long live our freedom fighters. Viva !
