Relentless downpour cause havoc in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi districts

Mangaluru, Aug 6: The twin districts of Mangaluru and Udupi are seeing heavy downpour since two days. Winds blowing at very high speed with the rain have caused wide spread damages in both the districts.

In Mangaluru, the compound wall of a commercial complex near Jail Road collapsed due to rain. The mud from the collapsed wall fell into the underground drainage. The compound walls of two houses that were by the side of this commercial complex also got damaged when the compound wall of the commercial complex fell on them. Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) personnel arrived on the spot and cleared the mud that fell into the underground drainage.

A house belonging to Gowri, a resident of Urwa, got completely damaged after a huge branch of a tree fell on it.

Traffic got blocked on the morning of Tuesday, August 6 at Kudthamugeru, which lies between Vittal and Salethur in the taluk of Bantwal due to the heavy rain that poured on the night of Monday. Motorists had a tough time. The traffic block got eased after an hour.

In Madyal Chadav of Dharmasthala two way road got converted into one way as a hillock got collapsed and mud from it fell on the road.

In the district of Udupi, the national highway connection is completely cut off due to the overflowing of Sita river at Hebri.

A Peepal tree fell on the Netravati Express train no 16345 that was moving towards Mangaluru, at the end of the platform at Udupi railway station at 5.30 am on Tuesday, August 6. No casualties were reported. The train was allowed to move further after the track was cleared of the fallen tree.

An electric pole came down on an auto-rickshaw near Mission Compound in Udupi. Damages were also reported from Ajjarkad.
