Kundapur, Aug 6: A stone inscription belonging to the period of seventh to eighth century AD has been unearthed at Kanyana near here. This inscription was traced by lecturers of Sharada College Basrur, Prof Purushotam Balyaya, Pradeep Kumar Basrur and retired lecturer Prof B Bhaskar Shetty. 

The script experts have estimated that the stone inscription belongs to seventh to eighth century AD based on the Halegannada script that is found on it. This can be connected to the reign of Aluparasa II. This stone inscription has words like 'Pandya Lupendra', 'Pattiyapuri' (Hattiangadi) and 'Bhattaraka' on both sides. The same words have also been found in the Belman copper inscription and Polali Ammunje inscription of eighth century AD. 

A deep and comprehensive study of this stone inscription will throw light on the history of Aluparasa dynasty that ruled this land for a long time.
