Mangalore: WIT's Three-day Seminar on Industrial Environment Inaugurated

Mangalore, Jun 15: A seminar by National Safety Council is being organized for three days from 15th to 17th June, 2009 at Sahodaya Convention Hall in the city, by the Western Institute of Technology (WIT), Kadri here. WIT, an ISO 9001:2000 certified institutes affiliated to Chicago Training and Consultancy, a collaborative provider of University of Wisconsin, Platterville's continuing education programmes and approved provider of professional development programme of Franklin University Ohio, USA. WIT holds the affiliation of the Academic Council of Mangalore University for conducting PGDBM and PGDTHM courses. It also is a corporate member of National Safety Council.
National Safety Council of India is an autonomous body under the ministry of labour and employment of the central government. At present, Anand G Mahindra, vice-chairman and MD of Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd is its chairman.
NSC's honorary secretary P C Venkateshwaralu, NSC Karnataka Chapter honorary treasurer B K Sadananda and Balakrishna, member of the national safey council, will be some of the resource persons at the seminar. The seminar will cover topics like fire prevention, fire fighting, emergency preparedness, safety in petro-chemical industries and construction safety.
In his presidential address, Walter Stephan Mendis said that the topics being covered at the seminar had been well-received. Even though many of the topics are covered in the text books, the students gain lot of additional knowledge because of the experiences of the teachers, he noted.
Safety has of late, gained lot of attention in India. Franklin University officials were very much impressed with the quality and facilities being provided at the WIT and made them their approved training provider for India. Therefore, WIT is set to gain in terms of recognition and importance in the coming days, he predicted.
