Bangalore, Jun 16: In an unexpected development, the government showed the doors to Vartur Prakash, who was given the chairmanship of Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board (KWSSB) and actress Shruti, chairperson of the State Women Development Corporation. It may be recalled, that Vartur Prakash, an independent MLA from Kolar and a Siddaramaiah loyalist, had been given the above post after he extended support to the BJP, helping it to form the government in the state. Shruti was the star campaigner for the BJP in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
Vartur Prakash has been charged with campaigning for the Congress Party candidate during the recent Lok Sabha election, in Kolar constituency. Sandeep Dave, currently functioning as the executive director of KWSSB, has been elevated to the post that fell vacant after the ouster of Prakash.
Shruti had plunged into a deep controversy after she filed divorce petition against her husband and movie director Mahendar, who also is with the BJP. Many accuse her of deserting Mahendar at a time when he is facing financial crisis. On the next day itself, she had left the party leaders blushing, by announcing that she would marry another person. This action from a person holding an honourable post, had come for severe flak from within the party circles including former MLA Prameela Nesargi and others. State president of the BJP D V Sadanand Gowda too had expressed his discontentment about this development and had hinted of taking action against Shruti, but the actress had maintained that the party has nothing to do with her personal life.
The government has posted Dr D S Ashwath, secretary in the department, in her place. Reaction of Vartur Prakash, a fire brand politician and Shruti, a fiercefully independent actress, are awaited. It may be recalled that Prakash, who has been active in the Ahinda movement of Siddaramaiah, continues to enjoy very good rapport with the Congress leader and takes pride in claiming himself to be his loyalist.
