Panaji, Aug 9: Goa has received 64% Of August month's rainfall quota in just 7 days. Krishnamurty Padgalwar, director India meteorological department (IMD), Panaji, said. "The state has so far received 86% of the four-month seasonal rainfall within a month and three weeks remaining.” The meteorological department announced on Wednesday, that the seasonal total rainfall had crossed the 100-inch mark, while 85 inch is the normal at this stage.
The wet spell shot up the surplus to 16%, though within normal range. As per meteorologists, the heavy spell is because of a two-pronged system of low pressure area that intensified into a depression in the Bay of Bengal and an offshore trough in the Arabian Sea.
As per IMD, Panaji, scientist Rahul M, “This strong system for the first time in this season, triggered very good rainfall in the ghat region.” The state average rainfall of 141.2mm during a 24-hour spell till Tuesday morning was the second highest in five years.
