Bangalore: Mining Barons sink Differences: Make Public appearance with Chief Minister
Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore (SP)
Bangalore, Jun 17: The Bellary mining barons, Reddy brothers and Sriramulu, succeeded in signalling that they have no more grouse against the Chief Minister, by publicly appearing with Chief Minister(CM) Yeddyurappa at a public function, for the first time after they started showing scorn towards the CM. The occasion was the 'Sadhana Samavesh' of the government held on Tuesday June 16 at Davangere.
Karunkar Reddy, Janardan Reddy and Sriramulu, who had hit the headlines after opting to stay out of the state-level programme organized on the occasion of its first anniversary by the state government at Bangalore, took part in the district level function at Davanagere. Energy minister Eshwarappa, who has been vocally critical of the CM, too took part in the function, giving an indication that the BJP has succeeded in bringing the warring factions together.
Reddy brothers, who had organized separate meetings of ministers and legislators loyal to them and reportedly were hatching a conspiracy to unseat the CM, had provided fodder to the rumour mills by staying away from important functions, cabinet meetings etc. It appears, the parleys held by the BJP central leadership have succeeded in dousing the flames of dissidence albeit temporarily.
Yeddyurappa, whose nerves were a little calmed down after the Reddy brothers chose to end their silent boycott, had to go fire-fighting on Tuesday, after learning that speaker Jagadish Shettar had become angry about not being invited for the ‘Vikasa Sankalp Utsav’ at Hubli. He rushed to the residence of Shettar after seeing that he had absented from the programme, and tried to sort out issues.
Even though Shettar was to preside over the Vikasa Sankalp Utsav held at the Nehru Maidan in Hubli, he had not come to the programme. The chief minister, who hurried through his part of the programme like delivering a speech and handing over facilities to the beneficiaries, rushed to Shettar's residence directly and held talks with him for about 25 minutes in the company of MP Anant Kumar. Speaking to reporters later, Yeddyurappa held the deputy commissioner and officials responsible for their failure to invite Shettar as per the set procedures. Jagadish Shettar said he felt, his respect had been dented by the negligence of either the district in-charge minister or the officials to personally invite him to the programme. "I chose to stay away from the programme to ensure that such mistakes do not recur in future," he clarified.
