Businessman stays at Taj Banjara for 102 days, absconds before paying bill of Rs 12.34 lac

Hyderabad, Aug 10: After staying for over 102 days at Taj Banjara, a businessman from Andhra Pradesh absconded without clearing his outstanding bill of Rs 12.34 lac. In the light of the events, the general manager of Taj Banjara, filed a complaint against the accused, identified as Shankar Narayan.

As per the FIR registered, Shankar approached the hotel with an agreement to stay in a luxury suite at a discounted rate, because he wanted to stay for a longer time. The management soon found Shankar was not in his room since April 15; he had absconded without paying the bill drawn in his name.

“The total bill came up to Rs 25.96 lac, out of which, Shankar has paid Rs 13.62 lac. The outstanding amount as on the day he absconded on April 15 this year was Rs 12.34 lac. Releasing his absence, the hotel management called him several times and he gave assurances that he would pay the amount. However, his phone is now switched off,” Banjara Hills Sub-Inspector Ravi said.

The police have registered a case under IPC Sections 406 (Criminal breach of trust) and 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property). The police have gathered CCTV footage from the hotel for evidence and investigation into the matter was underway. Investigative officials will be issuing a notice to the businessman soon.

Meanwhile, the businessman, a resident of Vishakhapatnam, denied all the allegations against him and claimed to being falsely accused.
