Udupi, Aug 16: “We are celebrating 73rd independence day. Though we have achieved development in some sectors, all round development is yet to be achieved. Youth should extend help to society in this connection. While independence is being celebrated, people elsewhere are struggling due to floods. We should not consider that it is the responsibility of the government, but should involve in rescue efforts. Let us think about the sacrifices of our soldiers and help in the formation of a new society,” said entrepreneur, president of college alumni association Kaup Vishwanath Shetty. He hoisted the National flag at St Mary’s College, Shirva and spoke as chief guest.

College principal Professor Rajan V N in his introductory address wished the students. NCC, NSS, Rovers and Rangers students sang patriotic songs. College student welfare office Professor Vittal Nayak, office head Jossy D’Souza, retired lecturer Ronald J Moras, teaching and non teaching staff and students were present.

Cadet senior under officer Deeksha Devadiga led the parade and gave the command. Rovers scout leader Professor Prakash rendered the vote of thanks. College NCC officer Professor Lieutenant K Pravin Kumar welcomed everyone and conducted the programme.
