Muslims decide not to offer namaz on road in Ranchi

Ranchi, Aug 17 (IANS): A Muslim cleric has convinced his community against offering namaz on roads in Ranchi henceforth.

"We stopped people from offering namaz on roads as it is incorrect to do so in Islam. There were some people who stood in queues on road to offer namaz but from now onwards it will be done inside mosques and space available besides it," Maulana Ubaidullah of Ekra Mosque told reporters.

So far, traffic on Ranchi's several roads, including Mahatma Gandhi Road, had to be diverted for namaz every Friday leading to massive jams. However, this Friday, hundreds of Muslims offered namaz inside Ekra Mosque situated near Ratan Talkies.

"The main road is an important route of the city as school buses, ambulances and important vehicles pass through it. Disturbing others in the name of offering namaz is not permitted in Islam," said Maulana Ubaidullah.

He said a meeting of the clerics of all mosques in the city will now be convened to stop the practice. The decision has been welcomed by the residents of Ranchi.

I appreciate the wise decision of Muslims of Ranchi. This is a good gesture towards the society also social evils who are awaiting to create communal tensions.

Now being reduced space of worship, I request the state waqf board under the Ministry of Minorities to allocate land to accommodate more worshippers. Also, I request Muslims of Ranchi to contribute something for the cause of Allah the almighty so that a decent prayer hall can be constructed to accommodate more worshipers.

Now Muslims have done it, I request the majority Hindus considering them as an elder brother to reciprocate the act and avoid inconvenience to their festivities in a simillar manner.

Hope we all understand our problems and cooperate to strengthen the secularism of this nation.

    Good decision.
At last they have realised the inconvenience caused to public by blocking the road for friday prayer. This must be followed all over the country.
In one mosque in US (Rochester, Minnesota), I have seen they had two congregations (jamaths) for Friday prayers. First jamath at 1 p.m and second one at 2.30 p.m
If the mosque does not have enough space, they have to think whether it is possible to make arrangement for two jamaths instead of praying on the street. 4426

    That's very good move.
Causing inconvenience to others is not allowed in Islam.
During Eid, if large congregations is gathered, should use a ground like Eidgah for Namaz.
It's always better to correct yourself before someone force it on you.
