Margao: Country’s Most Prestigious Film Appreciation Course comes to State

Margao, Jul 4: There is a good news for the Goan youths. India’s most prestigious Film Appreciation Course is now being brought to Goa by the Entertainment Society of Goa, in collaboration with the National Film Archive of India (NFAI) and Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune.

This week-long course is set to begin on Saturday July 4. The classes would be held in Maquinez Palace, Panaji between 9.30 am and 9.00 pm. As part of this initiative, two feature films would be screened every day, both national and international, like Bicycle Thief, Manoos, 36 Chowrunghee Lane, Palbhar Rasta Nahin, The Great Dictator, Psycho, Jumping Over the Puddles Again, Bumika, Rashomon, Hour of Furnace, Pushpak, Saat Hindustani and the short film About Killing. There will be discussions on the theoretical and practical part of film-making. The course is open only for the registered participants.

The total number of applications received for the course were 55, out of which, 12 students would be arriving from Delhi, Mumbai, Banglore, Hyderabad etc., to study for their courses. A faculty of eight is set to arrive from Pune, comprising of professionals like Haimanti Bannerjee, Urmila Joshi, Yogesh Mathur, Sulabha Naik, Samar Nakhate, K Jaiswal and Arti Karkhanis, to explain the essence of film making, art of cinematography, sound, editing, etc., through the cinematographic works of the critically acclaimed film makers. The theoretical part also includes art and history of cinema and the development of cinemas as a medium of art and communication. The medium of instruction will be English/Hindi/Marathi.

A certificate will be awarded on successful completion of the course on July 11, during the closing ceremony.
