Mangalore: Notorious Rowdy Vamanjoor Rohi Murdered

Mangalore, Jul 5: Vamanjoor Rohi alias Vamanjoor Rohidas Shetty, a notorious rowdy, who was facing a trail in Nagesh Poojary murder case and appealed against life imprisonment in this connection to high court was murdered at Jyotinagar, Vamanjoor here in the wee hours of Sunday July 5. Vamanjoor Rohi faced life threat for sometime now from his rival gangs.
Police suspect that a gang of five members, who got a whiff of him staying at one of his relatives’ house, ‘Sripath’ behind Durgaparameshwari Temple here entered into the house breaking open the latch of the front door. While three entered the house and murdered sleeping Rohi using a sword, two of them waited outside the house.
Facing a life threat, Rohi was not spending the night in his house, but would stay in the houses of his relatives or friends in turns. The ladies in the house he was murdered said that though they were sleeping in the hall outside, they were unaware when the murderers broke open the door and gained entry into the bedroom where Rohi was sleeping.
Rohi has suffered grievous injuries to stomach and hands as it is learnt that he escaped the first assault on his neck. Slain Rohi’s body was brought to City Hospital here in the morning.
He was also suspected to be behind the murder of Candle Santhu and had also charges of breaking the jail among others against him. It can be recalled here that in February, Rohi in a press meet had cleared the air that he was not behind the murder of Santosh Badkatabail alias Candle Santhu from Polali following allegations by Candle Santhu’s family that he was behind Santhu’s murder.
He had also stated that since a year and half he had stayed away from criminal activities and was into real estate business with rivalry between Barke gang and Ballalbagh gang being a closed chapter.
When rowdy Pandu Pai was found murdered in the city, recently the needle of suspicion first pointed at Rohi, but he was soon exonerated from charges when the real murderers were caught.
