Mangalore, Jul 8: Tejaswiraj, president, district committee, National Students Union of India (NSUI), on Tuesday July 7 alleged that the police tortured him brutally before framing him in a fake credit card case.
Undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city for the fifth day, Tejaswiraj claimed that the police kept him under illegal detention in a house for a day.
He was admitted to a private hospital in the city after he was granted bail by a court on Friday July 3.
Tejaswiraj claimed that after the police in Mangalore rural station took him to the house in a remote area, they beat him up in a brutal manner and taunted him about being a member of the NSUI.
The student leader is under treatment for internal injuries as well as blood clots on his legs and feet. He alleged that these wounds were caused by the police with ‘lathis’ and steel rods.
Tejaswiraj was produced in court on Tuesday June 31 alongwith three others in the same case registered by the Pandeswar police.
The case was handled by the superintendent of police’s special squad. The case is in the limelight because of the high profile people involved in it.
U T Khader, MLA, demanded strict action against the police for their inhuman behaviour.
But the police in Mangalore rural police station denied the charges and the superintendent of police Dr A S Rao said that he proceeded on receiving the complaint.
