Orissa, Jul 8: Twelve representatives from Khandamal, Orrisa, were trained at the National Institute of Social Communications and Training (NISCORT), in the skills and techniques of video production for enabling them to complete the video documentation processing in their hometowns.
The 12 participants, working for over five years either with Jan Vikas Seva Kendra or with Catholic charities in Kandhamal, backed by the experience handling both office work and field work, were hand-picked by Fr Dibyasingh, a former student of NISCORT.
Along with the participants from Kandhamal, three religious sisters and a priest participated in the entire programme. Fr Dejus was the course guide and director for this month-long crash course. The course comprised of mainly practical lessons and tips on videography with minimum basic theory whenever necessary.
The participants were divided into three groups. The groups then scouted the slums and neighbouring areas of Vashali, meeting and interviewing people from all walks of life, collecting data, chatting with vendors, shop-keepers, hospital staff etc. Then for two weeks, they worked in the studios to master the art of editing with latest technology. On the final day of their training, admirable videos they produced were exhibited. On the graduation day, the three ten-minute video films they produced, were screened.
The graduates thanked NISCORT for training them in skills they never had and providing to them the experience of interacting and feeling the emotions of the people they interviewed. They are hopeful that the skills will be handy when they face uncertainties as in the past henceforth.
NISCORT plans to impart similar training to more batches in future, to be able to work for the church and the society and build a future.
